LAUDABLE PROJECT COMMISSIONING BY DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT

Delta State Pushes Forward: Governor Oborevwori's Bold Vision Unveiled

A few hours ago Delta State Governor, His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori commissioned some projects in Delta State, an event beamed live on national television (see the video here) across the country.

This video captures the commissioning of the project by the Delta State Government on June 4, 2025.

Delta State is undergoing a transformation as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori spearheads major development projects under his M.O.R.E. Agenda—an ambitious roadmap for economic growth and social advancement. The latest milestone in this journey is the commissioning of eight newly built duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba, a move aimed at improving governance efficiency.

The Commissioning Event: A Symbol of Accountability

Speaking at the event, Governor Oborevwori issued a stern warning to members of his administration, emphasizing that performance—not rumors or political maneuvering—will determine their continued stay in office. He made it clear that underperforming commissioners will be dropped, ensuring that only dedicated and effective leaders remain in key positions.

"I want to commend our commissioners for being loyal, dedicated, and hardworking. But there are a lot of rumors saying the governor wants to dissolve the exco. These people haven't even heard from me," he stated, dismissing the speculation. However, he was quick to emphasize that those who do not deliver will be removed.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's vision for Delta State

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori envisions a Delta State that thrives through inclusive development, economic growth, and improved social harmony. His administration is guided by the M.O.R.E. Agenda, which stands for:

·       Meaningful Development: Prioritizing infrastructure projects, including roads, healthcare facilities, and urban renewal.

·       Opportunities for All: Empowering youth, women, and small businesses through targeted programs.

·       Realistic Reforms: Strengthening governance, transparency, and accountability in public service.

·       Enhanced Peace and Security: Ensuring stability and safety across the state through proactive security measures.

His M.O.R.E. Agenda is shaping Delta State’s future through several key sectors:

  • Infrastructure: Major road projects such as the Uruagbesa Oria-Abraka Road, Egodo-Ogbeinbene Road, and the Amai-Aragba Road are set to improve connectivity across the state.
  • Healthcare: The construction of a Specialist Hospital at Osubi aims to provide better medical services to residents.
  • Urban Renewal: Upgrades to key facilities, including the Warri City Stadium, are part of efforts to modernize urban centers.
  • Education: Investments in institutions like Southern Delta University, Orerokpe campus will enhance learning opportunities.
  • Economic Development: Targeted programs for micro, small, and medium enterprises will empower businesses and create jobs.

Governor Oborevwori has emphasized performance and accountability, recently warning underperforming commissioners that they must deliver results or face removal. His administration is focused on economic sustainability, aiming to fund projects without borrowing while leveraging federal allocations and internally generated revenue.

Looking Ahead: Sustaining the Momentum

Governor Oborevwori has signaled a more efficient approach to commissioning projects, citing President Tinubu’s strategy of consolidating multiple project inaugurations into a single event. On June 4, 2025, he plans to do the same in Warri, cutting tapes for several initiatives in a streamlined ceremony.

With the governor’s firm stance on performance and accountability, Delta State residents are watching closely to see if his promises will translate into lasting improvements. Whether his M.O.R.E. Agenda succeeds will depend on effective execution, financial discipline, and the willingness of state officials to rise to the occasion.

Background of The Project

The project being commissioned by the Delta State Government is part of a broader initiative to enhance infrastructure and development across the state. Earlier in 2025, the government approved ₦275 billion for the execution of 76 projects spanning different sectors, including roads, healthcare, and urban renewal. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori emphasized that these projects are meant to provide tangible benefits to the people of Delta State and improve connectivity and living conditions.

Additionally, the Delta State Executive Council approved a ₦936 billion budget for the 2025 fiscal year, with a significant portion allocated to capital expenditure, including infrastructure projects. The government has committed to funding these projects without borrowing, relying on federal allocations and internally generated revenue.

Public Reaction: Praise and Skepticism

Governor Oborevwori’s aggressive development approach has sparked mixed reactions. Many residents commend his focus on infrastructure, economic sustainability, and youth empowerment, seeing it as a positive step forward. However, some critics question the funding transparency of the projects and whether they will be executed as promised.

Political analysts note that his warning to commissioners reflects a strict performance-based leadership style, which could bring greater accountability to governance. Meanwhile, government officials, including Finance Commissioner Chief Fidelis Tilije, expressed gratitude for the improvements in housing for commissioners.
