“I Am 100 Percent Behind Tinubu’s Administration - Lai Mohammed”
In a
recent public statement, Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Information and
Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President
Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the current administration.
Speaking at the 15th Convocation Lecture of Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, Mohammed declared that although he no longer occupies a frontline role in party politics, his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership remains absolute.
“I am a very loyal member of the APC, and I am 100 percent behind this administration,” he emphasized, noting that his contributions now occur through “back channels” rather than visible public engagements.
Mohammed, who served for eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari, reflected on his political journey and the sacrifices made during his years in opposition. He described himself as a dedicated supporter of Tinubu, urging Nigerians to rally behind the president as he confronts persistent challenges in security and economic development.
He recounted how his national visibility
was shaped by sustained advocacy during the PDP era, particularly under former
President Goodluck Jonathan, when he often acted as a voice of opposition
through press briefings, interviews, and research-based media interventions.
During
his lecture, titled “Don’t Just Graduate, Innovate”, Mohammed encouraged
graduating students to embrace creativity, resilience, and courage. He stressed
that academic qualifications alone do not guarantee success, urging them to be
bold enough to speak their minds even when uncomfortable. Failures, he said,
should be seen as turning points rather than dead ends. His message underscored
the importance of innovation and confidence in shaping the future of Nigeria’s
youth.
The event
also highlighted the university’s commitment to discipline and excellence.
Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, explained that convocation
lectures delivered by accomplished Nigerians provide students with deeper
insights into national issues and their responsibilities in society.
Pro-Chancellor
Prof. Bode Ayorinde reinforced the institution’s values of integrity and
academic rigor, stressing that Achievers University does not compromise on
standards, with strict measures against misconduct such as drug abuse and
cultism.
Mohammed’s
remarks serve as both a political reaffirmation and a motivational call. His
declaration of loyalty to Tinubu’s administration signals continuity within the
APC, while his lecture to students reflects his enduring role as a public
figure committed to shaping discourse on national development.
By
positioning himself as a supporter “behind the scenes,” Lai Mohammed
illustrates the evolving role of elder statesmen in Nigerian politics, less
visible, but still influential in guiding party affairs and national
conversations.
