Police To Resume Nationwide Enforcement Of Tinted Glass Permit January
The
Nigeria Police Force has officially announced that it will resume the
nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy beginning on January
2, 2026.
This decision comes after a period of suspension, during which motorists were given time to regularize their documentation and complete the necessary registration processes without undue pressure.
According
to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief
Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, the resumption of enforcement is
driven by a disturbing rise in criminal activities facilitated through vehicles
fitted with unauthorized tinted glass.
The police
highlighted that some individuals and organized criminal groups have exploited
the suspension period to conceal their identities and commit crimes ranging
from armed robbery to kidnapping and other violent offenses.
The Force
clarified that at no point did the courts restrain them from enforcing the law
on tinted glass usage. The earlier suspension was described as a measure of
responsibility and transparency, aimed at ensuring public convenience.
However,
with emerging security threats, the police now consider it both necessary and
urgent to resume enforcement as a proactive step to safeguard communities.
Inspector-General
of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun assured Nigerians that the renewed
enforcement will be carried out with professionalism, respect for citizens’
rights, and strict adherence to existing laws. He emphasized that the police
remain committed to public safety and the rule of law, while working
collaboratively with stakeholders to maintain security across the country.
Motorists
who require tinted glass permits are directed to apply through approved
channels and ensure their vehicles comply with legal procedures. The
enforcement is expected to be nationwide, with officers tasked to monitor
compliance and penalize defaulters accordingly.
This
development underscores the government’s broader effort to curb crime and
enhance public safety, particularly in light of recent trends showing the
misuse of tinted vehicles for unlawful activities.
The
Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its determination to balance security needs
with citizens’ rights, ensuring that the enforcement process is transparent and
fair.
