Tinubu Orders Manhunt For Plateau Attackers, Announces CCTV Deployment
President
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong directive in response to the recent
violence in Plateau State, particularly the attack on the Ungwan Rukuba
community in Jos North Local Government Area.
The
assault, which occurred on Sunday, left several people dead and many others
injured, prompting urgent calls for decisive action. During a meeting with
stakeholders in Jos, Tinubu emphasized that no amount of mourning could restore
the lives lost, underscoring the need for leaders and citizens alike to
prioritize peace and prosperity over actions that perpetuate violence and
instability.
In his remarks, the President ordered security chiefs to immediately identify and apprehend those responsible for the killings. He stressed that such attacks must not be allowed to recur, framing his intervention as more than a gesture of condolence but as a determined effort to achieve lasting peace.
To
reinforce security measures, Tinubu announced the deployment of over 5,000 CCTV
cameras across Plateau State. This initiative aims to strengthen surveillance,
improve monitoring, and enable rapid response to emerging threats, reflecting
his administration’s commitment to accountability and stability.
Former
Plateau State governor Jonah David Jang also weighed in, attributing the spread
of violence from rural communities to urban centres to acts of sabotage. He
reiterated that Plateau remains a “home of peace and tourism” and called for
deeper dialogue with traditional leaders and other stakeholders to secure a
lasting solution.
Jang
suggested that some actors may be attempting to destabilize the state ahead of
future elections, but expressed confidence that such efforts would ultimately
fail.
This
development highlights the federal government’s dual approach of immediate
enforcement through a manhunt for perpetrators and long-term preventive
measures via technological surveillance.
Tinubu’s directive signals a renewed focus on restoring Plateau’s reputation as a peaceful and hospitable region, while also addressing the broader challenge of insecurity in Nigeria.
