 PUNCH: Denmark, Norway, Iceland suspend AstraZeneca vaccination after blood clot reports

*No higher risk of blood clots in those vaccinated –Regulatory body*

Denmark, Norway and Iceland on Thursday temporarily suspended the use of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine over concerns about patients developing post-jab blood clots, as the manufacturer and Europe’s medicines watchdog insisted the vaccine was safe.

Denmark was first to announce its suspension, “following reports of serious cases of blood clots” among people who had received the vaccine, the country’s Health Authority said in a statement.

Hundreds of people demonstrated peacefully on Thursday in front of a police station in downtown Johannesburg following the death of an unarmed passerby during a South African student protest against fees a day earlier.

A 35-year-old government worker was caught in the crossfire while walking out of a doctor’s office and shot dead on a street where university students were protesting over fees debt.

The incident sparked anger over police brutality.

 

PUNCH: Brain drain: UK restricts recruitment of Nigerian doctors, others

The United Kingdom has introduced a new policy in a bid to restrict the recruitment of doctors from Nigeria and other developing countries. The policy does not, however, bar Nigerian doctors from migrating to the UK.

This is according to a statement by the UK government titled, ‘UK to strengthen its ethical approach to the international recruitment of health and care workers’ on February 25, 2021.

The updated code of practice, which will help to meet UK’s target of delivering 50,000 more nurses by 2024, is expected to affect 47 countries especially Nigeria, which has the third largest number of migrant doctors in the UK.

A domestic abuse hearing in Michigan, which was being held over Zoom, was cut short when the defendant was found to be in the same apartment as his alleged victim.

Deborah Davis, the accuser's lawyer, was tipped off about his whereabouts, and the police were waiting outside to make the arrest.

 

Punch: Mike Davids Apologises To Apostle Suleman After Accusing Him Of Adultery

A former pastor, Mike Davids with Omega Fire Ministries, founded by Apostle Johnson Suleman, has apologised to him, after accusing him of adultery.

Davids said that he issued the public apology after hearing from God and based on the advice of those who had been intervening in the matter.

Davids had accused Suleman of adultery with his wife, Faith and even alleged that his life was under threat.

 

BBC News: Myanmar’s military accuses Suu Kyi of taking $600,000

Myanmar's military rulers have accused ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi of taking illegal payments of $600,000 (£430,000) and gold – but have provided no evidence.

The allegation is the strongest yet levelled by the military since it overthrew Ms Suu Kyi and the country's democratic leadership on 1 February.

Ms Suu Kyi has been held for the past five weeks in an undisclosed location and faces several charges including causing "fear and alarm", illegally possessing radio equipment, and breaking Covid-19 restrictions.

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has slammed all those urging government to arrest him because of the meetings he holds with bandits.

Describing such people as clowns, Gumi revealed that government officials also attend the meetings with the bandits.

Speaking to Daily Post, the cleric revealed that he’s not the first to hold dialogue with bandits.

 

CNN: Judge reinstates third-degree murder charge against ex-cop in George Floyd’s death

Former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin now faces an additional murder charge in the death of George Floyd after a Hennepin County judge reinstated a charge of third-degree murder on Thursday. Chauvin already faced charges of second-degree unintentional murder and second-degree manslaughter. He has pleaded not guilty.
