SCENE 1 – INT. LAWRENCE APARTMENT – LIVING ROOM – DAY

Sunlight filters through the curtains. BISI sits curled up on the couch, scrolling through her phone. Her parents chatter in the background, planning outings.

MRS. LAWRENCE Bisi, darling, we’re heading to the museum later. You should come. It’ll lift your spirits.

BISI (without looking up) I’m fine here. Museums are just buildings full of things that used to matter.

MR. LAWRENCE (softly) She needs space, Ada. Let her be.

MRS. LAWRENCE sighs and exits. BISI stares blankly at her phone. A notification pops up: “MIKE: Hey. Can we talk?”

SCENE 2 – INT. BISI’S BEDROOM – NIGHT

BISI lies on her bed, headphones in. Her journal is open beside her. She hesitates, then opens MIKE’s message.

MIKE (TEXT) I know this is weird. But I’ve been thinking about you. A lot.

BISI’s heart races. She types, then deletes. She finally replies.

BISI (TEXT) You’re with Tola. Why are you texting me?

MIKE (TEXT) Because you see me. The real me. Tola doesn’t. You always did.

SCENE 3 – FLASHBACK – INT. SCHOOL LIBRARY – DAY

BISI and MIKE sit across from each other, laughing over a shared book. TOLA walks in, waving.

TOLA There you two are! Mike, come on—we’re late for rehearsal.

MIKE hesitates, glances at BISI, then leaves with TOLA. BISI watches, her smile fading.

SCENE 4 – INT. BISI’S BEDROOM – NIGHT

Back in the present. BISI stares at her reflection in the mirror.

BISI (V.O.) Why does everyone care so much about who I love? Why does it feel like my heart is public property?

She picks up her journal and begins to write.

BISI (V.O.) I’m not resigning from the human race. I’m just tired of pretending I’m okay with being invisible.

SCENE 5 – INT. LAWRENCE APARTMENT – LIVING ROOM – DAY

BISI walks in, dressed and ready. Her parents look surprised.

MRS. LAWRENCE You’re coming?

BISI Yeah. Let’s go see those things that used to matter.

SCENE 6 – INT. MUSEUM – LATER

BISI stands before a painting of a girl staring into the distance. MIKE walks in, unexpectedly.

MIKE I didn’t know you’d be here.

BISI (without turning) Neither did I.

MIKE I meant what I said. I care about you.

BISI Then care enough to let me heal. Alone.

She walks away, leaving MIKE stunned. Her parents watch from afar, proud.

FADE OUT

BISI (V.O.) Love isn’t always a story. Sometimes, it’s a lesson. And I’m finally ready to learn mine.
