Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State
Zamfara's Bold Educational Leap: 408,137 Teaching Materials Distributed Across Public Schools
In a landmark move to revitalize education in
Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal has spearheaded the distribution of 408,137
teaching and learning materials to public schools, marking one of the most
significant investments in instructional resources in the state’s history.
The initiative, unveiled at the Teacher
Training and Development Centre in Gusau, is part of the administration’s
broader mission to rescue and rebuild the state through strategic educational
reform.
Governor Lawal emphasized that the distribution is not merely about handing out books but about laying the foundation for recovery, renewal, and progress.
He stated that the most effective way to
restore Zamfara is by investing in the minds of its people. The materials,
procured directly by the state government, are intended to empower teachers
with the tools they need and ensure pupils have access to adequate learning
resources.
The effort was bolstered by key partnerships.
The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) contributed an additional
77,609 materials, while UNICEF provided 5,000 Climate Change and Education
Early Warning Handbooks. These handbooks are designed to equip students with
essential environmental knowledge and preparedness skills in a world
increasingly affected by climate change.
Governor Lawal praised the dedication of
Zamfara’s educators, acknowledging that no amount of material investment can
replace the impact of a passionate teacher. He urged parents and guardians to
play an active role in their children’s education, stressing that learning
begins at home and that parental involvement is crucial to academic success.
The Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State
Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Nasiru Anka, commended the
governor’s unwavering commitment to reviving the education sector. He also
lauded donor agencies for their continued support and encouraged parents to
ensure regular school attendance while calling on teachers to remain devoted to
their duties.
This initiative follows other educational
reforms introduced by Governor Lawal, including a conditional cash transfer
program launched in July that benefits over 8,000 secondary school girls across
the state’s 14 local government areas. Each beneficiary receives ₦40,000
initially, with an additional ₦60,000 per academic session, aimed at supporting
vulnerable households and promoting inclusive development.
