Anambra Declared
Safest State by Governor SoludoGovernor Soludo of Anambra State
Governor
Charles Soludo of Anambra State has declared the state the safest in Nigeria,
citing significant strides in dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace
across troubled regions.
Speaking during a live media chat in Awka, the state capital, Soludo emphasized that Anambra has not recorded any major security incident in the past four months, a feat he attributes to coordinated reforms and decisive action against criminal elements.
The governor revealed that over 60 criminal camps have been cleared, while eight local government areas previously under siege have returned to normalcy.
He
highlighted the festive season as evidence of renewed confidence, noting that
the state witnessed its most vibrant Christmas in decades, with over 10,000
visitors arriving daily.
A major
turning point, according to Soludo, has been the end of the sit-at-home order
enforced by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Schools, markets,
factories, and public services have resumed full operations, and flights into
Anambra now operate on Mondays without disruption.
Soludo outlined institutional reforms introduced since his assumption of office, including a new homeland security law, anti-touting and anti-cultism measures, and the creation of two new security outfits: Agunechemba and Ugodachi.
These
initiatives, he explained, were designed to strengthen the state’s security
architecture and restore public confidence.
Reflecting
on the conditions he inherited in 2022, Soludo recalled a climate of fear where
political campaigns were conducted under severe threat, and even wearing party
paraphernalia or driving branded vehicles could result in fatal consequences.
He contrasted this with the current environment of relative peace and freedom.
Despite
the progress, Soludo acknowledged that perfect security remains unattainable.
He described security as “not a destination but a work in progress,” stressing
that while Anambra has made remarkable improvements, vigilance and continuous
reforms are essential to sustain the gains.
This
declaration underscores the administration’s commitment to transforming Anambra
into a model of safety and stability in Nigeria, even as challenges persist in
the broader national security landscape.
