The nonagenerian monarch urged Oba Adeyemi to continue to use his position to advance the cause of the people of Oyo, while praying to God to grant the celebrant longer life and sound health in the service of humanuty.
Oba Oyewumi, who stressed the importance of traditional institutions in nation building called on traditional rulers to use their platforms to promote peace and unity in their domains.
In a congratulatory letter to Alaafin, Oba Oyewumi extended his greeetings to the Oyo Royal household and the people of Oyo on the landmark celebration saying "I am delighted to convey my warm greetings, on behalf of the good people of Ogbomoso land, to you on this glorious occasion of your 50th coronation anniversary.
"Since you ascended the throne of your forefathers, you have used your position and resources to advance the cause of your subjects and domain. As you mark this historic feat, it is my prayer that Allah will grant you long life as you steer the affairs of your domain".
Oba Oyewumi wished Alaafin a joyous and memorable celebration.
However, according to online reports, history has it that Oba Adeyemi 51 years ago contested alongside 10 others as revealed in "Celebrating Five Decades Of Grace", an article with the content "... the contest to Oba Adeyemi lll emergence in 1968, when he was invited along with ten others from the ruling house to contest for the vacant stool of Oyo Empire. As it was the custom of the land, there were three parameters with which the contestants were judged. First was eligibility, second was popularity and third, the stamina for huge responsibilities of the office of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi emerged the first, defeating ten others after a vigorous screening exercise. However, to what the observers attested to be a political inference, the then government refused to endorse his appointment, saying the procedure was not right. So, the process started over again with same result, the second and the third time. Interestingly, despite the immense pressure upon the Oyomesi against his candidature by the government, the Oyomesi stood its ground. Thus the process was put in abeyance until civil war when the whole process started over again"
By media reports, before his enthronement, Olayiwola Adeyemi has been praying fervently to ascend the throne of his forebears, this confession was revealed on the day he clocks 50 years on the throne, he said "... today, on the 14th of January, 2021 makes it exactly 50 years I ascended the throne of my forebears as Alaafin. It was a dream come true, a prophesy foretold that the heavens had accented to when I wrote that piece of article and published it, the article is 'I SHALL BE THE NEXT ALAAFIN'.
"On behalf of myself, my family, "Oba Adeyemi expressed. "want to thank all the good people of Oyo for their unflinching support and love for me as their King because as a family we have stood together since I ascended the throne and we are still standing together, and we are going to continue to stand together because 'awa onilu o ni fe ko tu'
"Let us all continue in our strides and efforts in making Oyo great, we have no two home, we can not deny our home and sincerely we all love this town irrespective of the economic situation of our country, because we want our town to be developed, even more. I Alaafin Oba Adeyemi lll will always be in the front of the vanguard for the development of Oyo, Oyo State, Yoruba land and Nigeria', he added.
