The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the crushing of 482 motorcycles impounded for various traffic offences at different areas in the state, Punch reports.
According to the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said in a statement on Saturday that the crushing of the impounded motorcycles was an ongoing exercise, adding that the decision to publicly crush them was to dispel insinuations that they were sold and recycled into the society.
Ajisebutu said, “Motorcycles impounded at
different times and locations in the state for contravening various traffic
laws were today massively crushed at the Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
Speaking at the site where 482 of the
impounded motorbikes were crushed, the report submits further that the
Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, disclosed that the exercise had been on
since the enforcement started but the exercise carried out publicly today was
to convince members of the public, especially the doubting Thomases, that the
impounded motorcycles were actually being crushed contrary to insinuations by
mischief makers that the motorbikes were being sold and recycled.
Odumosu warned erring motorcycle operators
plying restricted areas and those violating other traffic laws to change or be
ready to face the legal consequences.
