Three years ago on my way to Kaduna, I saw a brother of mine beside his parked car along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.
I quickly pulled over to see what the problem was. As he was narrating what was wrong with the new car he recently bought, we saw another Krubete car driving at 45km/hr drove past us.
My brother turned and ask me why his car can’t travel long distance journeys when cars like that Krubete do it on a daily. YOUR CAR NA ABUJA CAR. E NO DEY USED TO STRESS. THAT KRUBETE DON DEY TRAVEL BEFORE THEM BORN YOU. I replied and he banged the bonnet of the car as he laughed at my dry jokes.
We laughed some more as the mechanic who was working on the car brought it to live. We all entered our cars and left but I pondered on how a mechanical object like a car can be trained to be used to discomfort.

Young friend, once in while, take a moment to reflect. Away from the neck-breaking, soul-sucking hustle. Away from the choke of religious dogma. Away from base, retarding ethnic sentimentality. Away from all the invisible bigotries embedded in us by the environment and the enemies of progress.
In that moment of reflection, in the womb of silence, you will find the answers and the courage to rise to a better, happier you. You're beautiful, aren't you?
