President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,
has officially commissioned the Bwari Township Water Supply Network in Bwari
Area Council, describing the 198-kilometre pipeline project as proof that the
Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering tangible results to satellite towns.
Speaking at the event in Bwari on
Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the President said the project directly links Bwari and
its environs to treated water from the Lower Usuma Dam, ending decades of
reliance on untreated boreholes and streams.
“Water is life. Clean water is
dignity. It is a fundamental right, not a luxury”, President Tinubu
declared. He added, “When the FCT Minister drew my attention to the
plight of residents in Bwari and its environs, I told him: ‘Go out there,
mobilize the best, and fix it’. And today, we are commissioning this
state-of-the-art network. That is how we work. We don't make excuses; we
deliver results!”
The President noted that last month a
similar promise was fulfilled in Karu with water and road projects, adding that
the Renewed Hope Agenda is “a deliberate social contract, and a commitment to
governance that works for the people”.
He said the Bwari water project has
already created over 1,600 direct and indirect jobs for youths in the Area
Council and will drastically reduce waterborne diseases and the cost of private
borehole drilling for residents.
Commending the FCT Minister,
Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his commitment to execution, the President assured
residents that the administration will extend similar water interventions to
Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada and Abaji before the end of its tenure.
“To the people of Bwari: this project
belongs to you. It was built for your benefit with your commonwealth, for your
progress. I charge you to guard it jealously”, the President said.
President Tinubu added that as the
administration marks its third anniversary, the fruits of reforms were becoming
visible across the FCT and the nation, with infrastructure laying the
foundation for a prosperous, resilient and inclusive Nigeria.
Speaking in her capacity as the First
Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, quoting the
Christian scripture, prayed for healing, fruitfulness and peace for the nation.
While delivering his speech at the
event, FCT Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike, recalled how President Tinubu requested
for the extension of potable water to satellite towns during the second
anniversary of his administration in 2025.
He highlighted the Karu Township Project commissioning weeks before, and the commissioning of the Bwari Water project as a testament to the fact that project execution in the FCT was not only about road construction.
"Today we're here for the one in
Bwari, in Bwari Area council. So, in that sense, since the assumption of Mr.
President in office in 2023, he has been able to provide water for the city
center, provide water for the satellite towns in Karu and other communities,
and also provide water for Bwari. Let people know that we're not only
concentrating on roads. We’re also making sure other sectors are being touched.
That's why we're here", he added.
The Minister noted that the Bwari
Water Project marked the 50th officially commissioned project since he assumed
office, and said he was determined to commission 10 more projects before the
commencement of campaigns for the 2027 election.
He also reiterated the need to
provide governance to the people, and to make the people happy.
"You see, when people are happy,
those in authority will be happy. But when people are not happy, those in
authority are bound not to be happy. After all, what is governance? Governance
is to make people happy, to make changes in their lives, to make it better.
“By the grace of God, before the end
of this year, we will also commission the 17km Bwari-Kubwa road. And I am sure
you can see the turnout of people here. That is to say, how happy they are”, he
said.
Meanwhile, FCT Minister of State, Dr.
Mariya Mahmoud, has said that the newly commissioned Water Supply Network to
Bwari Satellite Town was a major milestone in the implementation of President
Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at expanding access to essential
infrastructure and improving the quality of life of FCT residents.
In her vote of thanks at the
ceremony, Mahmoud described the project as "the fulfilment of a
promise", adding that access to clean water would improve public health,
enhance livelihoods and restore public confidence in government.
She expressed appreciation to the
First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for commissioning the project,
describing her as a symbol of compassion, patriotism and commitment to the
welfare of Nigerians while thanking President Tinubu for his unwavering support
for the development of the nation's capital.
Dr Mariya also praised the FCT
Minister, Barr Wike, for his visionary leadership in accelerating
infrastructure delivery across the FCT, particularly in underserved satellite
towns and reaffirming the FCT Administration's commitment to delivering more
people-centred infrastructure projects in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Presenting the project’s technical
overview, Acting Executive Secretary, FCDA, Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, said
that the contract for the construction and expansion of water supply in Bwari
town was awarded to CGC Nigeria Limited, in August 2025, adding that in
accordance with the FCT Master Plan, the Administration had been developing
infrastructure in satellite towns of the FCT, where majority of the population
of the FCT residents reside and carry out their businesses.
He said the expansion of the
provision of potable water supply to the satellite towns, particularly Bwari
was to improve access to potable water supply so as to upgrade, expand, and
complement the greater Abuja water project. He revealed that it was intended to
serve the vast majority of the Bwari area, including settlements such as
Ushafa, Aji, Zuma, Gaba, and Kuchikau.
