Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has hinted that the ongoing registration of National Identity Number would help Nigeria to curb crime and criminalities as well as helping the country to achieve digital economy.
The Minister made this submission Thursday while presenting a keynote address at the Global Privacy Day Celebration, 2021.
He stated that the value of the registration exercise would become appreciated with the ease at which e-government services would be delivered, the reduction in crime, and general efficiency guaranteed by the database.
According to him, “Identifying every Nigeria is a soft infrastructure needed to achieve our digital economy objective.

The police in Benue State, on Tuesday arraigned the 17-year-old girl, Esther Alex, who allegedly set her boyfriend ablaze, reports The Punch.
The suspect was arraigned before the Magistrate Court 8 located at North Bank, Makurdi.
According to the First Information Report titles: 'Mischief by Fire and Culpable homicide', nee Esther Alex of No. 1 Zaki Biam Street, Wadata, Makurdi, went to the house of Mr Chidimma Omah, 28, at No 17 Yander Street, Makurdi, poured petrol on the house, while he was asleep, and set it ablaze.
"As a result, the room was engulfed in fire, which burnt down the entire property, whose value is not yet known, together with Mr Chidimma Omah, who sustained grave burns and subsequently died while receiving treatment at the hospital", the FIR stated in part.
The prosecutor, Inspector Dominic Ochaba, who asked that the accused be remanded in correctional centre, said investigation into the matter was still ongoing.
