SECOND CHANCES

Second Chances

Second Chances:  Ada and Kunle’s emotional journey, from their first meeting in a café to their tender moments under the Abuja skyline.

Genre: Romantic Drama

Setting: Modern-day Abuja, Nigeria - a mix of urban sophistication and quiet domestic life.

Main Characters:

  • Ada: 46, a successful interior designer, independent but emotionally guarded.
  • Kunle: 49, a widowed civil engineer, kind-hearted and introspective.
  • Chika: Ada’s younger sister, lively and outspoken.
  • Emeka: Kunle’s teenage son, smart and observant.

Scene 1 – The Coffee Shop

Interior – Morning. A bustling café in Wuse 2. Ada sits alone, sketching designs on her tablet. Kunle enters, looking for a seat.

Kunle: Excuse me, is this seat taken? Ada (without looking up): Not unless you plan to steal my coffee. Kunle (smiling): I promise I only steal good conversation.

Ada looks up, amused. They share a brief smile.

Ada: You’re bold for a stranger. Kunle: I’m an engineer. We build bridges — even conversational ones.

They laugh. The chemistry is subtle but undeniable.

Scene 2 – The Unexpected Reunion

Exterior – Evening. A networking event for professionals. Ada spots Kunle across the room.

Ada: You again? Are you following me? Kunle: Maybe destiny’s GPS is just accurate.

They toast with glasses of wine.

Ada: I don’t believe in destiny. Kunle: Then let’s call it good timing.

Scene 3 – The Dinner

Interior – Ada’s apartment. Warm lighting, soft music. Kunle helps set the table.

Kunle: You cook like someone who designs kitchens for a living. Ada: I design spaces, not meals. But tonight, I’m making an exception. Kunle: I’ll take that as a compliment — and a warning.

They laugh. Ada’s phone buzzes — it’s Chika.

Chika (on phone): Sis, don’t overthink it. Just enjoy the evening. Ada: I’m not overthinking. Chika: You always do.

Ada hangs up, smiling nervously.

Kunle: Everything okay? Ada: Just my sister reminding me to stop being me.

Scene 4 – The Conflict

Exterior – Kunle’s home. Ada visits unexpectedly. Emeka opens the door.

Emeka: You’re the designer lady, right? Dad talks about you. Ada (surprised): He does? Emeka: Yeah. He smiles when he does.

Kunle enters, holding blueprints.

Kunle: Ada, I didn’t expect you. Ada: I needed to see you. I’m scared, Kunle. I’ve built walls for years. Kunle: Then let me help you tear them down — gently.

They stand in silence, emotions raw.

Scene 5 – The Resolution

Exterior – Abuja skyline at dusk. Ada and Kunle walk hand-in-hand.

Ada: You were right. Maybe destiny does have good timing. Kunle: Or maybe we just stopped running from it. Ada: Either way, I’m glad we met. Kunle: Me too. Second chances look good on us.

They share a quiet kiss as the city lights shimmer behind them.
