*I RECKON THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE HUMAN SPECIES IS LACK OF ORIGINALITY IN SELF-DISPOSITION. THAT IS THE REASON I HAVE LEARNT NOT TO PUT MY TRUST BUT MUTUAL DISTRUST IN PEOPLE. IT THUS SAVES ME THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DANGERS OF POSSIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT. BUT WITH DATELINE BLUES I DO NOT REALLY NEED THAT PRINCIPLE* -DATE-LINE BLUES

I met my
husband in church. It was on a Wednesday service. I went to church with a
friend and after the service, myself and my friend; we were looking for someone
to lift us to Area 1. Then this car just came and packed beside me. So I sat
down in front and my friend sat in the back.
After the guy
dropped off my friend at Apo Breach and we were heading towards Area 1, we
started talking. He asked for my name and I told him. He was just looking at my
face and I was looking at him too.
But there was
something I thought about him that day. But you know as a young lady I just
looked at him and I didn’t need to show my feelings, you know.
So when we
got to Area 1 I was about to alight from the car when he said “No! No! No! Let
me take you to your house”. I said, “’ No!’ You can’t take me to my house”. He
said, “Please, let me take you to your house”. I said “Okay”. So he took me to
my house, and then when I was about to alight he looked at me and I said “Why are you looking at me?” So he said “Please, can I check your phone?” I said “my
phone?” He said “can I see your picture?” So I gave him my phone, and then he
was going through the pictures. He would check and … “is this you?”
I said “Yes” He would say “Wao! Is this you? I said “Yes” He would say “This is
lovely”. I was just wondering “What kind of a guy is this?”

So after
checking my pictures, he gave me back my handset and then we departed and I said: “Fine”. Okay, he asked for my number. I was feeling reluctant to give him my
number because I just met him on the very first day. So I just gave it to him,
… there’s nothing wrong with meeting a friend, so I gave him my number and I went
to my house.
After three
days he called “Will you be in church today?” In my mind, I said, “Which one
is this church friend thing now?” I said “Yes, I will be in church but I might
not see you because I’m coming with a friend” He said, “There’s no problem. I
just want you to come to church”. So, that was it.

I got to the
church that day and he called me after service. We chatted. It was just like
more of “friendship”.
So I lost contact
with him for two months. After two months I was going through my handset and I
saw the number again and I said ‘Ha! This old friend of mine, I can’t even hear
from him anymore”. You know, something was just pushing me to call. But the
woman in me was saying, “Why would you call him? He should be the one to call
you … or maybe he doesn’t even care about you or something”. I said “Ha!” But
the thing was just pushing me – “Call! Just find out how he’s doing”. So, I
picked up the handset and I tried the number.

When I called
he was like – “Eh! Sorry, I had an accident. I lost my phone and I’ve been
trying to call you. I thought you had relocated” … you know, just to walk
around since he doesn’t really know my flat because it was all these high rise
houses in Area 1. So, he has been looking for a way to get in touch with me. So
I said, “Ha! Well, I didn’t call to waste my credit. I just called to say ‘Hi!’
He said “No- No- No! I’m going to save your number. So, that was it.
He started
calling me from that day. We started seeing as friends. You know, he didn’t
really sit down to ask me out. You know, “I like you … will you be my
girlfriend?”
But there was
a wonderful day I can never forget in my life; that was when in my heart I knew
the relationship had started.

He used to
come to my house and office. But I didn’t know where he stayed. So there was a
particular day when I said “Can I visit you?” He said, “Yes. I live in Lugbe,
here in Abuja”. I said, “Okay. Let me find time and come to your
house”. It was the very first day I went to his house and em… he
kissed me. “Ugh!”

After
kissing him I felt something different. It was just as if the feelings were so
special. It was the very first day I went to his house and em… he kissed me. “Ugh!”. He
was asking me, “Why are you crying?” I couldn’t explain myself, I was just
crying. But after that ay I knew the relationship would have started. We
started from there.
I dated my
husband for two years and six months before we got married. It was a nice
relationship all through. You know, he was caring, nice, loving. He
loved me more than I loved him. He was just all over me from day one to the
last day. He would introduce me to friends as his wife … “my wife … my wife “…
until that D-day.
