In response to the rising tension across the country on account of the widespread acts of banditry and criminal abductions, and the unprecedented political tension, mutual distrust and threat of a total breakdown in law and order, which the insecurity situation has sadly generated, the Network and Advocacy Group of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation on Friday February 26, 2021, hosted an interactive session with some senior media practitioners, on the critical role the media can play in changing the present narrative and preventing a violent implosion.
Highlighted at the event which was facilitated by Prof. Tony Iredia and Rev. Fr. George Ehusani was the urgent imperative for all stakeholders in the Nigerian nation to build a strong consensus in advocating for Greater Social Justice, Social Inclusion and Equity; for the Creative Management of the Rich Diversities among the Nigerian people; for Crisis Prevention and the Management of Conflicts through Dialogue; for Greater Civic Awareness and Civic Participation; as well as for Greater Mutual Understanding towards Peaceful Coexistence and National Integration.
Participants at the event which held at the Lux Terra Complex in Apo, Abuja, were made up of senior executives from a cross section of print and electronic media. They each resolved to do more towards dousing the ongoing political tension, towards promoting truth, justice and fairness, and towards facilitating a sense of national cohesion, among Nigerians of diverse ethno- religious and geo-political backgrounds.
The interactive session with senior media executives toward dousing tension and promoting peaceful coexistence, is one in a series of programme interventions that the newly established Network and Advocacy Group is undertaking in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation and Open Society for West Africa (OSIWA).
