PUNCH NEWSPAPERS: I begged Niger Republic to let Nigeria construct free railway for them – Amaechi
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, says he personally travelled to Niger Republic to beg the country to allow the Nigerian government to construct the $1.95bn railway from Kano State into Maradi in Niger Republic.
Amaechi said this on Channels Television’s ‘News Night’ programme on Monday which was monitored by our correspondent.
The railway is expected to run from Kano to Dutse- Katsina through Jibia and will end at Maradi Niger Republic.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has lamented the way the police treat some cases involving some suspected criminals who are Fulani.
The monarch said some Fulani persons who were arrested for kidnapping and handed over to the police were released in controversial circumstances.
Alaafin said this in Oyo on Monday when
the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abduraheed Akanbi, visited him in his palace.

WE HAVE BORROWED $2.5BN FROM CHINA EXIM BANK – AMAECHI
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has said that the Federal Government has borrowed about $2.5billion for the construction of a railway linking Lagos to Ibadan.
He stated this during an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s Newsnight which aired on Monday night.
“If you look at the whole total cost, it
will be $2.5 to $2.6 billion that we have borrowed from China Exim bank,” he
said.
