Police have arrested a man said to have broken into a horse stable last week and had sex with a horse in an incident that was caught on security camera.
Before now and according to Metro West Daily
News report, Police search for man accused of having sex with a horse in
Norfolk:
‘The
owner of a Miller Street horse center has put out a warning to other horse
farms to be on the lookout for a man who allegedly had sex with a horse at the
facility on Thursday’
The horse was uninjured, Turner Hill Equestrian Stables owner Hillary Swarr said Friday. "This man is a sexual predator," she said.
The report states that the unidentified man
is seen on a security camera going into the stables at Turner Hill Equestrian
around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday. The man used grain to lure several horses out of
their pens and succeeded with one.
“He was familiar with horses,” said Norfolk
Police Detective Samuel Webb. “The way he was able to put the reins on the
horses shows he knew what he was doing.”
According to Swarr, the stables have
multiple security cameras, but the man had unplugged all but one. An alarm
sounded to an employee of Turner Hill, who saw on a video feed what was
happening. By the time anyone arrived, the man had left.
"To have someone break into your barn,
pick out a horse like it’s a lady lover, pull her out and manoeuvre yourself in
such a manner for self-gratification is beyond me," said Swarr.
According to Webb, the horse was medically
checked and determined to be healthy. Investigators conducted an exam similar
to tests on human sexual assault victims to collect evidence. He added that he
has sent an alert out to surrounding communities to see if they had any
information or similar incidents.
“I was able to get some leads from that,”
said Webb. “I have some things I’m going to check out.”
Swarr said she has installed a new security
system that will prevent a repeat episode.
According to Webb, the suspect, if caught,
would likely be charged with sexual contact with an animal and trespassing and
possibly other charges.
Swarr told the Daily News an employee was
remotely alerted by an alarm when a stall door opened, but no one could get
there before the suspect fled.
Upon his arrest the suspect, the Boston
teen Jackson Z. Kelley is charged with sexual contact with an animal, cruelty
to an animal, and breaking and entering during the night-time with the intent
to commit a felony.
Police said the man turned himself in on
Tuesday, accompanied by a lawyer.
Authorities allege that the man entered the
stables at Turner Hill Equestrian on Miller Street around 4:30 a.m. on
Thursday. He is seen on a video camera luring the horse from its stall with
grain. He then stood on a stool and had sex with the animal while it ate.
At the man's Wrentham District Court
arraignment on Tuesday, he was ordered held without bail pending a hearing on
Friday to determine if he is a danger to the public.
“The
Norfolk Police Department would like to thank the public for taking the time to
come forward and become involved,” Police told Boston.com in a statement. “We
received many calls providing information which eventually led to the
identification of Kelley as the suspect.”
