NIGERIA’S PRESIDENT AND HIS VICE TO RECEIVE COVID-19 VACCINES ON SATURDAY – NPHCDA

The Executive Director, National Primary Heath Care Development agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib, on Thursday disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will receive shots of AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 vaccines on Saturday.

According to Mr Shuaib, the exercise will boost the confidence of Nigerians to receive the vaccines shipped into the country on Tuesday.

“The next step in the vaccination programme given that we’ve now received the vaccines is a launch that will be taking place at the National Hospital tomorrow (Friday). The time scheduled for that launch is 10am. The launch will be conducted by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha.

“The plan is to vaccinate the frontline health workers that work in the treatment centre of the National Hospital, those will be the first people to take the vaccines.

House of Representatives Cancelled Its March 4 Session

 

The House of Representatives cancelled its Thursday session after receiving information about a possible security threat at the Capitol on March 4, reports USA Today.

In the report, the United States Capitol Police said Wednesday they were aware of a “possible plot to breach the Capitol by an identified militia group”, and a notice sent to all congressional offices and the agency was bolstering its security presence on Capitol Hill.

Now, with the coronavirus vaccine rolling out across the country, some Flint residents are wondering whether or not it’s safe. Hesitancy is particularly high in some Black communities, which have a history of being discriminated against in the US health care system.

The month of March marks National Endometriosis Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness of endometriosis, one of the most common gynecological diseases, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). 

Shelley Hopper, a 31-year-old single mother, said she spent two years suffering from debilitating pain until she found a doctor who "believed me."

Hopper, of Roseville, California, was diagnosed with endometriosis, a disease that researchers believe affects more than six million women in the U.S. and as many as 200 million women worldwide.

The south of Nigeria mostly depends on the north for its food, but the farmers-herders crises is driving a wedge through that business relationship, reports Pulse Nigeria.

According to the report, Alhaji Bello, a peripatetic salesman who hawks beef around Surulere, Lagos, has been forced out of business for well over a week now.

“Meat is so expensive now”, he told Pulse, his blackened hands quickly shoved into his blood stained trousers. “In fact, we don’t even see the meat to buy anymore.”

In the last couple of weeks, suspected hoodlums and brigands in the northern region have been impounding food trucks making their way down Nigeria’s south in what has been labelled a reprisal move, as ethnic tension stemming from a recurring farmers-herders crisis engulfs Africa’s most population.
