“The importance of public health security might
well be best highlighted by pointing out that infectious diseases are
undeterred by the most robust of military systems, and thus have the capacity
to undermine a nation’s sovereignty no matter how powerful. Nations would do
well to note this and act decisively and proactively to ensure health security…
“While not every country has the ability, financial
or otherwise to conceive, build and equip a 1000-bed hospital in fourteen
days, national governments must at the very least dedicate resources
for epidemic
preparedness at national borders and in health facilities at
national, state and district levels, and screening travellers at international
and domestic airports…
“Despite what might appear to be a painful upfront
cost, health security investments must be made because any outbreak has the
potential to significantly
disrupt, not only healthcare systems, but also trade, tourism,
energy, civil protection, transport and agriculture.”

“It would be quite unfortunate if for any reason
Nigeria were on the list,” Mr. Mohammed said, noting the two government’s
cooperation
in combating terrorism. “It would be a double jeopardy: The country has committed a lot of resources to fight terrorism. Any travel ban cannot but be inimical to the growth of the country.

“Once a travel ban
is imposed on a country, the consequences are not always pleasant.”

“The rationale for limiting visas to the nationals of these four African countries can only be seen as a demand for a reduction in immigration from African countries collectively especially due to the White House’s previous assessment regarding ‘shithole countries’,”

“On the day of the incident, we had an argument and he called me
and asked me to come outside of our gate to get the rest of my things in his
car. He said he was driving to our area at Ox-Bow Lake to come and give me my
things since I was no longer interested in the relationship.
“He eventually showed up. He came down from his car, reached for
the passenger seat, opened the door, brought out two bags and handed them over
to me. I opened the bag and I figured out my things weren’t complete, and I
told him some of my things were not there and that I would come and pick up the
rest of my things.
“At this point, he started screaming saying he would not want to
see me close to his house. But I insisted I would come to take other things he
did not bring to me.
“At this point, he was already in his car. He started raining
abuses on me, calling me unprintable names. I couldn’t take it. So, I
responded. The next thing, he drove his car into me with speed. He hit me
against our gate, held me there and did not reverse his car despite the fact
that I was screaming in pains.
“He later reversed and I fell to the ground and he zoomed off. My
neighbours, who watched what happened screamed for help and came to my rescue.
“This relationship lasted for four months. But I decided to quit
when I discovered that he was a violent person. He had hit me once, that was
when everything started to take a nosedive.
“I can’t walk for now, probably I will never walk with this leg.
They would have amputated this leg earlier today. But they referred me to a
specialist hospital in Port Harcourt. They want to see whether something could
still be done and it must be done very fast before it gets to my knees.
“I’m
devastated, but I’m fine, i will rise above it. I feel bad, I didn’t think
someone could go this extreme”.

“Today, we are at the America Embassy. We have
just submitted our petition on behalf of the leadership of the PDP and
the poor masses of our country. The need for the international community to
come to the assistance of our dear country because Nigeria is a member of
comity of nations. Nigeria is not an island. It is a member of the United
Nations. When things go wrong, other international community can come to
advise, that is why we are here. The continent of our petition is for other
international community should come to the aid of Nigeria and to advise our
government to obey the rule of law especially as it relates to the NASS and the
judiciary.
“Over the past few weeks, we have passed
through very difficult and challenging times. The case in question is Imo
State. We have submitted our petition. We have addressed a press conference
“As we speak, Mr. President has lost
control of security. Our nation is in danger. We are in pain and we ar ein
trouble. As a party, we can not keep our hands waiting for the propaganda of
the presidency. This country belongs to all Nigerians.
Today, we backed our Minority Leader
asking and demanding that Buhari should resign because he has lost control
absolutely. It is not time for propaganda and it is not time for the presidency
to respond to issues that are very sensitive and germane for the
foundation of our country.
“When we speak, you see one of them
responding but they have left the main issue. The issue is that our people are
dying and are in hunger. You can not travel from Abuja to Kaduna, you can not
go to Minna. You can not go on road. All over the country, insecurity and
killings are too much and overwhelming. We believe that the President has lost
control. The international community should come quickly to the aid of Nigeria.
We have the highest IDP in Africa today and yet we are not at war. That is the
mission why we are here.”

Secondus, PDP National Chairman
