“I need to state
that the Nasarawa State Kidnapping Act Prohibition Law was extensively
deliberated and passed by the State House of Assembly.
“This law spelt
out various offences relating to kidnapping and prescribed stringent punishment
for perpetrators, such as life imprisonment and death penalty,”
“The Minimum
Wage Act is already a law and every political office holder must respect the
sanctity of our Constitution and the oaths of office they have sworn to uphold.
“If a worker is
entitled to be paid his wages, the wages must be commensurate with what has
been negotiated. In 90 per cent of the countries around the world, the minimum
wage law is implemented and observed. So, we cannot be an exception.
“While
appreciating those states and, even the Federal Government, that have paid all
the workers under its employment, including arrears which have set the base and
standard for states to follow, there is no excuse for any state not to pay
workers a minimum wage that has been negotiated because 85 per cent of the
Value Added Tax (VAT) increase goes to the states.
“We have
empowered our state councils. Once they reach a situation where they think
there is no commitment, we have given them the power to declare an action and
withdraw their services.
“Many states
have done that. In Ogun and Niger states, they did that before they were
invited to the table. We don’t need to take any decision again to say that you
need to do what you need to do.
“Once the state
executive council feels that there is dilly-dallying on the minimum wage, which
is already a law, they should be able to enforce their own right. We will
support them. Where they need reinforcements from the headquarters, we will be
there to support them.”
“We take
cognizance of the fact that some Supreme Court justices and indeed, other
judges, as well as judicial officers, have in the past suffered assaults, both
formally and informally under the supervision of the Muhammadu Buhari-led
administration.
“Cognizant of
the fact the Supreme Court infallibility is hinged on it’s finality, and not
because it’s personnel (justices) are infallible, we reaffirm our faith and
confidence in the judiciary, particularly, the Supreme Court which is still the
only hope of the common man.
“Consequently,
we express our unalloyed support for the leadership of our great party, the
PDP, and hereby call for a review by the Supreme Court of all its earlier
judgements,”
“Specialists
from the National Institute of Anthropology and History determined that it was
a piece of Yoruba origin,”
“It was also
determined that it had been illegally exported”
“We have a policy
under Governor Kayode Fayemi-led government. When we award contract, we expect
the contractor to first mobilise to site and display capacity before financial
mobilisation by government. That has been the standard.
“We awarded four
road contracts at the same time in January. But unfortunately, Sharvet Nigeria
Limited refused to mobilise to site and begin work while the three others are
already working as agreed.
“Anytime we award
contracts, we believe we are dealing with a contractor that has the competence
and once this is lacking and we don’t want our people to suffer due to
deplorable road conditions, it has to be revoked, which we did in the interest
of our people,”
