The security challenges confronting our Nation can be surmounted if all Nigerians, the leaders and the led, commit themselves to love for the country and the peaceful coexistence of our people.
That was a submission from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma via his twitter handle in respect of a lecture he delivered at the National Institute for Security Studies, Bwari, Abuja.
He twitted further:
"These were at the core of my expressions at the National Institute for Security Studies, Bwari, Abuja where I delivered a lecture to the participants of the executive Intelligent Management Course 13.
"I discussed on the topic: Promoting National Security And Sustainable Development, the Imo State Experience.
"I listed some of the factors contributing to National Insecurity as high rate of illiteracy, unemployment, poverty, dispute over land and other resources, natural disasters, corruption, amongst others.
"I argued that good and incorruptible governance is one way of eliminating insecurity in the land because it will ensure justice and equitable distribution of scarce resources and reduce unemployment, poverty and spur patriotic zeal among citizens.
"I salute President Muhammadu Buhari for leading the way in this respect.
Regrettably, some members of the political class are in the habit of encouraging insecurity for their selfish political gains.
"If leaders were honest, incorruptible and championed peaceful coexistence and tolerance, the long journey to a peaceful, secured Nigeria would have been shortened drastically.
"The audience presented itself yet another good opportunity to list the achievements of our administration in Imo State in fighting insecurity.
"These measures include massive skills acquisition for youths for self employment which targets to provide jobs for 20000 youths in three years, running a transparent government, massive rehabilitation of infrastructures to facilitate job creation and social welfare programmes for workers, including free transportation services and free breakfast for civil servants"
