Workers’ Day, celebrated globally on May 1, was marked in Nigeria with tributes
from state governors who praised the resilience and contributions of workers to
national development.
The
Federal Government declared the day a public holiday, underscoring its
importance in recognizing the labour movement and the sacrifices of workers
across the country.
In Rivers
State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC),
the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and their affiliates for resolving disputes
through dialogue rather than confrontation.
He emphasized that this approach has fostered industrial harmony in the state. Fubara also highlighted ongoing rehabilitation of the State Secretariat Complex, aimed at improving the work environment and boosting productivity.
