We embrace the energy of April with excitement, new things will be unfolding from us this quarter
A New Turn With Data
Based on the data gathered in the first quarter of the SPMC One Year Scholarship for School Aged Girls in Nigeria, we have changed the content of our Pad boxes. This quarter we substitute sanitizers with pants. Across our locations, our girls are getting pants in response to their answers to our questionnaires.

Our Big Announcement - Birth More Locations With Us
“None of us is as smart as all of us.” – Ken Blanchard
Do you have a desire to provide sanitary pads, towels to girls in your home town, alma mata, neighbourhood, church and other spaces? But you are too busy to execute that dream.
Individuals & organisations can now partner with us to reach more girls in underserved communities including rural areas and urban slums. We would go to those far-flung places on your behalf.
7
Things You Need to Know about the SPMC Co-Ownership Hubs
1. How many girls are you thinking of?
We have a category price list for 20, 50, 100 girls. We can ADAPT to your needs
2. Would the location be mine?
Yes, it would be because you are donating to the girls, however we will co-own with you since we will support you in keeping it going.
3. What would be the role of SPMC?
Take the stress of logistics, which includes purchase, boxing and distribution off you.
4. What must I do?
Pay for the number of girls you want to support, pay for the transportation to the location, pay for the handling/activation of the location by SPMC.
5. Must I be physically present at the activation?
If it’s really your dream, you should be there, however if, because of distance and the demands of work, you can’t, we can activate on your behalf.
6. How long can I operate my location?
We suggest that you be proactive in alignment with the SPMC philosophy instead of being reactive. We recommend a one-year intervention.
7. My village is quite far, are you sure you can get there?
If people travelled to the moon on behalf of mankind then we would try to be there, with your determination and enabling, of course.

The SPMC Throwback

In our first year of operations, we executed an advocacy campaign, to support our advocacy for free sanitary pads for girls in secondary schools in Nigeria. Here are two of our campaign banners from about 100 women across media who participated.

. . . That Marcia Belsky Song about 100 Tampons in Space
Now this is a funny one. Musical Comedian Marcia Belsky in a Ted Talk delivered in December 2021 shared a song she composed about Astronaut Sally Ride’s encounter with NASA about Tampons. The comedian went viral across social media for her musical retelling that story. She however added a bit of this and that to make it funny. She retold the story saying: NASA sent a woman to space for “only six days” with 100 tampons, then asked if that would be enough.
The Truth
Sally Ride is most remembered for being the first American woman to go to space, breaking boundaries and stereotypes with her diligence and intelligence. Ride and five other women were chosen to join NASA’s astronaut class of 1978, she had to deal with a lot of sexism and gender bias at work. NASA “didn’t always know how to adjust to the presence of women” ― which became even more clear when they asked Ride for help in developing a makeup kit to be used in space. NASA suggested women take 100 tampons with them to space for a one-week flight.

Belsky Song vs the Truth
We were able to find the transcript from NASA’s oral history project. It’s true that NASA asked if 100 was an appropriate number, NASA did not actually send a woman to space with that number. Belsky also claims that NASA tied the 100 tampons together. not true. In conclusion, NASA didn’t actually send a woman to space with 100 tampons, like the song says. However, according to Ride, NASA did ask if that was the correct number.
