My husband rejected my offer of a second wife despite 24 years of childlessness – Mother of twins
From 24 Years of Silence to a Chorus of Joy: The Inspiring Journey of
Pastor Funmilola Abraham
For
Pastor Funmilola Abraham, the road to motherhood was paved with heartache,
unwavering faith, and a refusal to give up—even when hope wore thin. A Regional
Overseer at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, her testimony has
touched lives across Nigeria and beyond, after she miraculously gave birth to
twins in March 2025 at the age of 57—after 24 years of childlessness.
A Long Walk Through Disappointment
Pastor Funmilola got married in March 2001, and soon after, began experiencing fertility challenges. She underwent fibroid surgery in 2002 and was assured everything looked fine. But years passed, and conception remained elusive. She endured numerous procedures—at least ten flushing treatments—and in 2019, she turned to IVF. The first attempt brought joy: she became pregnant with triplets. But tragedy struck five months later when doctors found fatal heart complications in the unborn babies. They were lost in a painful medical evacuation.
Another
round of IVF failed. Emotionally and physically drained, she chose to lean into
her calling rather than dwell on her sorrow. Despite deep moments of silent
grief—crying in private, staring blankly in thought—she kept praying for
others, offering them hope even when her own arms remained empty. Many who
conceived through her ministry didn’t even know she was still trusting God for
her own miracle.
Community, Character, and Compassion
What set
her apart was how she carried herself. Her in-laws, often an unpredictable
force in cases of infertility, became pillars of support. “The way you carry
yourself matters,” she noted. She treated her husband’s family with kindness,
ensured her in-laws’ needs were met, and earned their unwavering respect. Her
friends and church members were also supportive—many shocked to learn she had
never had children when her testimony broke.
Her
husband, a devoted Christian, remained steadfast. Even when she offered to step
aside so he could marry another, like Sarah in the Bible, he lovingly refused.
“Didn’t I see the village before I married you?” he asked. “I’m not going anywhere.”
A Turning Point
At a 2023
New Year crossover service, Pastor Funmilola intensified her prayers. Around
that time, she heard of a matron known for helping women with natural herbal
treatments. Skeptical but prayerful, she sent another woman first—who returned
pregnant a month later. Encouraged, Pastor Funmilola began her own treatment
with the matron. It combined herbal medicine and prayer. Soon after, she
noticed signs of ovulation. Within weeks of intimacy, she conceived—naturally.
Her twins
arrived on March 12, 2025. It was a moment that stunned everyone—not only for
the miracle of childbirth at such an age but for the quiet strength she'd shown
while blessing others.
Faith Meets Medicine
One of
her core messages is that faith and medical science are not adversaries but allies. She challenges the stigma around IVF and
medical interventions, urging women to explore their options early and wisely.
“It is not a lack of faith to use medicine,” she insists. “If you don’t take
steps, you may remain stuck.”
She
emphasizes that IVF can be emotionally, physically, and financially taxing—and
that God's mercy is needed regardless of the method. But she also encourages
early action, especially for women between the ages of 35 and 40.
Cultural Echoes and a Shared
Celebration
In
Nigeria, where fertility often defines a woman’s social worth, Pastor
Funmilola’s experience reflects a broader cultural truth: those who navigate
infertility with grace can still earn their community’s respect and love. Her
story challenges the silence and shame often associated with delayed
conception.
When her
miracle finally arrived, the celebration was nationwide—family and friends came
from abroad, Lagos, and her village to rejoice. Her life became a living
testimony not just of answered prayer, but of how character, compassion, and
unshakable belief can sustain a person through decades of waiting.
