Holidays are usually a form of unity and oneness in the affairs of mankind. So today, 26 April 2025, showcases its own instituted holidays to be observed by all concerned.

Holidays Calendar submits that "World Intellectual Property Day" is a holiday that’s observed every year on April 26th. It was first established in 2000 by the World Intellectual Property Organization to raise the public’s awareness of how trademarks, copyrights, and patents impact everyone’s daily lives.

They also created it to show the public the importance to artists and creators of ensuring their intellectual property remains safeguarded. Since intellectual property is important for innovation and creativity, this is a day that everyone should consider celebrating when it rolls around in April.

The History of World Intellectual Property Day

In September of 1998, this holiday was first proposed by the Director-General of the National Algerian Institute for Industrial Property. The following April, the institutionalization of the idea was proposed to the U.N. General Assembly.

In August of 1999, the Chinese delegation to the World Intellectual Property Organization also recommended the adoption of a World Intellectual Property Day. In October of that same year, WIPO’s General Assembly approved the adoption of this day, and in April of 2000, it was observed for the very first time.

1999 ECOWAS protocol on cross border grazing origin of insecurity in Benue — Governor Alia

Hyacinth Alia, Benue State Governor

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has attributed the prolonged insecurity in the state to Nigeria’s adoption of the 1999 ECOWAS protocol on cross-border grazing, describing it as the bedrock of the crisis that has displaced thousands and upended agrarian livelihoods in the state.

Speaking in a detailed interview with Vanguard, the Catholic priest-turned-politician lamented the consequences of the protocol, which allows pastoralists from neighbouring West African countries to move freely across borders for grazing purposes. According to him, this framework, which Nigeria formally adopted in 1998, drastically altered the dynamic between local communities and herders.

“In our growing years, we used to see herders come during the dry season and leave afterwards. There was order. But post-1999, what we began to see was entirely different. What is happening now is not traditional grazing — it is planned, coordinated, and militarised displacement,” Alia said.

So, What Happens After The Pope Dies?

Incase you wondering on what NEXT after the passing of the Pope, well wonder no more because Vanguard reports that the death of Pope Francis on Monday sets in motion centuries-old traditions which will culminate in the election by cardinals of a new pontiff — but with a few changes.

According to the report here is how the process unfolds:

– Sede Vacante –

The Catholic Church enters a period known as “Sede Vacante” (Vacant See) during which a senior cardinal takes over day-to-day affairs until a new pope is elected.

The cardinal, referred to as the “camerlengo” (“chamberlain”), in this case will be Irish-American Kevin Farrell, appointed to the role by Francis in February 2019.

He is the only top official in the Church hierarchy to remain in post, with all others required to resign following the death of the pope.

TikTok Sale | Trump says US talking to four different groups

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that his administration was in touch with some groups about the sale of Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok, and that all options were good.

Aboard Air Force ONE, U.S. President Donald Trump said that his administration was in touch with four different groups.

TikTok's fate has been up in the air since a law requiring its owner ByteDance to either sell it on national security grounds or face a ban took effect on January 19.

Reportedly, the law banning TikTok materialized amid concerns that the Chinese government could exploit the app for surveillance or covertly influence US public opinion. As the deadline approached, TikTok temporarily shut down its services in the United States and disappeared from app stores, sparking outrage among its millions of American users. However, after beginning his second term in January, Trump suspended the implementation of the ban for two-and-a-half months in an effort to negotiate a resolution with Beijing. This allowed TikTok to restore service and return to Apple and Google app stores in February.
