DOUSING THE HEIGHTENED POLITICAL TENSION: Lux Terra holds Interactive Session with Media Executives

In response to the rising tension across the country on account of the widespread acts of banditry and criminal abductions, and the unprecedented political tension, mutual distrust and threat of a total breakdown in law and order, which the insecurity situation has sadly generated, the Network and Advocacy Group of Lux Terra Leadership Foundation on Friday February 26, 2021, hosted an interactive session with some senior media practitioners, on the critical role the media can play in changing the present narrative and preventing a violent implosion.

Why some CSOs, NGOs oppose Buhari

Many of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) opposing President Muhammadu Buhari, were doing so now because the president refused to agreed to their outrageous demands at the expense of the country.

The Executive Secretary, Citizens Watch Advocacy Initiative (CWAI) and President, Coalition of Civil Societies and Media Executives for Good Governance in Nigeria (COCMEGG), Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, and the Secretary General, James Okoronkwo, said this on Monday in Abuja, at a press conference on the State of the Nation.

Aigbegbele at the event which also witnessed the passing of a vote of confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari Administration, urged Nigerians to ignore a statement by a self-acclaimed coalition of 70 CSOs across Nigeria to pass a vote of no confidence on President Buhari's administration.

According to him, the so called 70 CSOs cannot speak Nigerians, especially that COCMEGG is an umbrella body of over 350 CSOs, NGOs, human rights activists and media executives, among others.

“These co-travellers of CSOs, NGOs and groups masquerading themselves as conscience of the Nation, have been wining and dining with the same present administration since they took over the mantle of leadership in 2015.

“Our findings revealed that, instead of offering positive and constructive advice, the group prefers rather to go cap-in-hand, soliciting and arm-twisting the present administration to harken to their outrageous demands, failure to which, they now cajole and blackmail the present administration, in order to achieve their selfish agenda.

We must listen to those who call for peaceful co-existence, dialogue, restraint and understanding - FFK

From the desk of Nigeria's Politician, essayist, poet and lawyer Femi Fani-Kayode:

There are many things happening in this country that people do not know. It is only when you have access to information that you can get a clear picture and make an informed assessment.

I have access to virtually every key person in this country and I assure you that we really are sitting on a keg of gunpowder.

It really does scare me. Those that talk carelessly and that do not emphasise peace, unity and restraint will lead us into a full scale civil war which will not only decimate the entire west African sub-region but will also last for at least 50 years.

It will make the civil war in Somalia, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Congo and Yugoslavia look like child's play and it will make our first civil war look like a tea party.

At least 50 million people will die in such a conflict because neither side will give an inch. I see this coming and I pray to God that it does not because none of us will be spared. This doomsday scenario must NEVER be allowed to unfold.

Many foreign nations want it to do so so that they can sell their weapons of mass destruction and arms to us, make millions of dollars for themselves and feed off Nigeria and African blood but we must resist it.
