10 Ways to Cope with the Death of a Spouse

According to the American Psychological Association, 40-60% of married people in the United States will experience the death of a spouse during their lifetime. And, for those who do, the grieving process can be long and difficult.

The death of a spouse is often sudden and unexpected, leaving the surviving spouse feeling overwhelmed and alone. While there is no single way to cope with the death of a spouse, there are some strategies that may be helpful.

1. Allow yourself time to grieve

It is natural to feel a range of emotions after the death of a spouse, including sadness, grief, anger, and guilt. Give yourself time to mourn the loss, and don't be afraid to express your feelings. It may help to talk to someone who can understand what you are going through. You can also find support groups specifically for those who have lost a spouse.

5 Ways to Differentiate a Friend from a Moocher

A friend and a moocher are two drastically different things. A friend is somebody who genuinely cares about you. A moocher is someone who “exploits the generosity of others” (“Moocher Definition & Meaning,” Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2022). It is not uncommon for a moocher to easily slip into a friend group and try to present themselves as a “friend.” If you are wondering if your “friend” is a moocher, here are five ways to differentiate a true friend from someone abusing your kindness:

A Moocher Never Pays You Back

A definitive way to differentiate a friend from a moocher is if the individual never pays you back. While it is one thing if you treat a friend to a birthday meal or a surprise cup of coffee, it is completely different if a person is always insisting that you pay the bill and they never pay you back. Real friends allow you to treat them for special occasions, but they would not insist on it every time.

A group of veteran Russian human rights activists plan to publish an open letter calling on Russia to end its war in Ukraine, declaring it “our common duty” to “stop the war, protect the lives, rights and freedoms of all people, both Ukrainians and Russians”.

The “manifesto”, signed by 11 prominent activists including Lev Ponomaryov, Oleg Orlov, and Svetlana Gannushkina, announces the creation of a new anti-war council of Russian human rights defenders and is the broadest collective statement against the war by the Russian human rights community to date.

The activists say they will seek to help Russians avoid taking part in the war against Ukraine and to demand that the Ministry of Defence releases accurate information about the number of Russian soldiers killed in the war.

WAO! ARTISTS MAKING HITS FROM HOME

From Pro-Sound Network comes a report about artistes making hits from home.

Traditionally, according to the report, ''musicians would go to a recording studio to make their hits, which would be kitted out with all the instruments and technology needed. However, technology became more accessible about 50 years ago and some of the most successful musicians ever were able to build full studios in their homes, a trend that continues today. Even more recently, music-making technology has basically become accessible to basically anyone with a smartphone or laptop (although you arguably are more limited this way)''.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)

‘All are alarmed that weak governance accentuates the problems and casts doubt on the leadership’s ability to weather the storm.

‘Among the daunting headwinds is, ironically, the spike in crude oil and gas prices that ordinarily should have been a boost for a major exporter. But as the country irrationally relies wholly on imports for refined petroleum products, higher prices mean higher costs of imports, and higher subsidy costs, which planned stoppage the government shifted by another 18 months.

‘Corruption, fiscal recklessness by the government and external pressures have, combined with its own incompetence, defeated the monetary authority’s efforts to effectively manage the exchange rate.
