Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammad Adamu in a recent appearance on Channels Television said "We shall never allow any violent protest in this country again".

"When #EndSARS protest started peacefully", the IGP said. "we provided security for them. We were moving with them to make sure they were not molested by any group of people and it was going on well until it turned violent.

"When it turned violent, they then attacked the people that were even giving them protection. So, we shall never allow any violent protest in this country again", he added.

66% OF NIGERIAN RURAL CHILDREN CAN'T READ, WRITE - Minister

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, represented by the Director and Head, Department of Family Health in the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr Salma Anas-Kolo, during the closing ceremony of a two-day stakeholders' consultation towards ministerial commitment for educated, healthy and thriving adolescents and young people in West and Central Africa, has disclosed that 66 percent of Nigerian children in rural areas could neither read nor write.

The revelation also has it that while Nigeria had a higher burden of adolescent pregnancy and child bearing, 19 percent of teenagers (15-19) were already mothers or pregnant with their first child, where the pregnant adolescent girls had poor health-seeking behavior while about 32 percent of teenage women less than 20 years didi not receive ante-natal care.

"In Nigeria", the Minister said. "the possibility of a child born and achieving its full professional and economic potentials is low; the Human Capital Index put this at 36 percent. This is lower than the average in sub-Saharan region and low and middle income countries.

"The Economic recovery and Growth Plan notes that Nigeria ranks 137 out of 140 in infant mortality rate, 10 million children are out of school, 66 percent children in rural areas cannot read or write, and 17.6 million youth are unemployed".

According to the Minister, Nigeria has the highest number of persons with HIV in the world with an estimated 1,9 million people living with HIV/AIDS.

The event was organized by the United Nations educational Scientific and Cultural Organization and UNFPA in collaboration with other UN agencies, Ministries of  Health, Education, Network of Young People and Civil Society Organizations.

#EndSARS: Don't Brush Off UK Parliament Debate

Professor, Bolaji Akinyemi, Former Nigeria's Minister of External Affairs

The Nigerian government has been advised not to dismiss the threat of sanctions by Uk parliamentarians against top Nigerian officials and security agents involved in the alleged violation of #EndSARS protesters' rights.

In a report titled "#EndSARS: Don't Brush Off UK Parliament Debate, Former Foreign Minister Advises Nigeria", Arise News Official on its Instagram handle credits the comment to a former Nigerian Minister of External Affairs, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi. The statement came after the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama had played down the sanction threat by the parliamentarians, saying that legislators are not responsible for imposing sanctions on other nations.

Professor Bolaji Akinyemi has thus advised the federal government to take advantage of the several available channels to lay their own side of the story before the United Kingdom's House of Commons. In his words "It is true the British Parliament is not the ultimate but God helps a British minister who ignores the feelings on the floor of the commons.

"Many ministers have come to grief by taking a lackadaisical attitude towards the view of parliament. So I wouldn't brush off quite lightly the debate in the commons" he said on ARISE News.
