Adeleke Joins Accord Party
In a
dramatic political twist less than twenty-four hours before the Accord Party
governorship primary election, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has
announced his defection to the Accord Party.
The declaration was made at the Government House in Osogbo, where Adeleke addressed members of the State Executive Council, top government officials, and leaders of the Accord Party.
Governor
Adeleke revealed that he had secretly joined the Accord Party over a month ago,
explaining that the party’s mission of welfarism aligns with his commitment to
the welfare of citizens and workers. He emphasized that the move provides him
with a platform to seek re-election and govern Osun State for another four
years.
According
to Adeleke, stakeholders and residents of the state are already aware of the
reasons behind his defection and will support him in the upcoming election.
This
announcement follows Adeleke’s resignation from the People’s Democratic Party
(PDP) on December 1, 2025, after reports that he was denied admission into the
All Progressives Congress (APC) two months earlier. His decision to join Accord
Party marks a significant realignment in Osun’s political landscape, especially
as the APC prepares to conduct its own governorship primary with 1,660
delegates.
Adeleke’s
defection is expected to reshape the dynamics of the 2026 Osun governorship
race. His administration has previously highlighted achievements in
infrastructure and fiscal management, including claims of cutting the state’s
deficit by over 50% since 2022.
With his
new political base, Adeleke is positioning himself as a candidate who can
continue delivering on promises while aligning with Accord Party’s
welfare-driven ideology.
The
development has sparked intense discussions across Osun State and beyond, as
political observers weigh the implications of Adeleke’s move on both Accord
Party’s strength and the broader electoral contest.
