KNOW YOUR WALK TYPE

Some school of thought submits “dress the way you would want to be addressed”. Good one. But let me shock you with this, if I may; it’s now a research fact that the way you walk also has a lot to do with your health and personality.

COMMUNICATE, NEVER CLOSE HIM OR HER OUT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

COMMUNICATION is the thrust of our being. In the beginning of creation God spoke things into existence via communication. Thus, communication is “life”.

“I have never bought things in bulk in my life. I don’t even have a fridge or a good place to store anything as we live in a makeshift house, so I ignored her but on the second day of the lockdown, we became very hungry.

“Our usual way of feeding is to walk down the street to buy things and cook late in the night with firewood but because many of the shops were locked, we couldn’t get anywhere to buy anything.

“My husband had to borrow N10, 000 for me to buy food at Agbara Market. I left home before 5:30 am and got to the market before 6:00 am but by the time I finished buying, there were no buses to bring me back to my bus stop as buses usually stop working before the police road blocks are mounted.

“I had to walk for more than 10 kilometers with my bag on my head. If I could throw the things I bought away, I would have done so. I would walk for a while and stop to rest. This was how I got home that day,”

“It is regrettable to announce that three Nigerians have died of COVID-19 in the United States of America.

“The first case was a 60-year-old lady, Hajia Laila Abubakar Ali of Kano descent, who died on March 25, while receiving treatment at the Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx, New York.

“Secondly, 25-year-old Bassey Offiong from Calabar, a final year Chemical Engineering student of Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, died on Saturday, March 28, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

“Unfortunately, the last case was a medical practitioner, Dr Caleb Anya, from Ohafia in Abia State.

“He died while rendering service to humanity on the forefront of the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic in New York on April 1.

“On behalf of the Consulate General of Nigeria in New York, I wish to extend our condolences to the families of the deceased Nigerians in this tragic circumstance.’’

“The Surulere police station got distress calls from neighbours in that area of loud music. Our men located the address and the music was still playing. According to the report that I got from the DPO, they had over 50 persons celebrating.

“When they saw police, some of them ran in different directions but we eventually had about nine persons arrested. The speaker was also seized. Two police officers were injured from the brief we got because they went in small numbers. They never envisaged that there would be resistance.”

“Kaduna State Government has rolled out stringent measures to safeguard the State from the rampaging COVID-19 pandemic.”

“As expected, the State Government has locked down the state, created isolation/treatment centers, provided health personnel with personal protection kits, embarked on aggressive enlightenment campaigns  and is working on palliative measures to cushion the effect of the unfortunate situation on the people,”

“This is unacceptable and must be addressed urgently. My Constituency, Kaduna Central Senatorial District is particularly at risk. The forests around Birnin Gwari, Giwa and Igabi Local Governments have been very challenging in terms of monitoring and policing. We fear the influx of people whose health status are unknown and may constitute a huge risk to our people.”

“We urge the governments of the concerned states to do the needful and urgently too. COVID-19 is real. It is a merciless virus. It is no respecter of states or persons.”

“There must not be gaps in the national response to the pandemic. If one state is not covered, every other state is at risk. Countries or sub-national states with better healthcare systems are already overwhelmed by the sheer ferocity of the pandemic. The zero -case status of a state should be an opportunity for it to take precautionary measures, not for it to be complacent,”

“It indeed smacks of heartlessness that the All Progressives Congress (APC), its leaders and cronies in government circle are rather manipulating fuel costs at this critical time when other governments across the world are seeking ways to mitigate the economic hardship being faced by their citizens.

“Our party maintains that since Nigerians earlier had to bear the brunt of high cost of fuel in the face of high oil prices in the international market, it is only fair that they also enjoy the benefits of the cut in international prices; an advantage the APC had continued to deny them.

“The PDP invites Nigerians to note how the APC and its leaders had remained silent and failed to support the demand for reduction of fuel price; a development that only points to apparent complicity in this sleazy scheme against our citizens.

“The PDP, therefore, charges the APC and its administration to immediately reduce the pump price to the appropriate price of N90 as well as refund the accruable, so far, from the N35 per liter difference and channel same to provision of palliatives to Nigerians.

“Our party also challenges the APC to join the PDP and other well-meaning Nigerians in our persistent demand that President Buhari orders the recovery of over N14 trillion oil money stolen by APC leaders in the last four years including the stolen N9trillion detailed in the leaked NNPC memo, and redirect same to the welfare of Nigerians.

“Furthermore, the PDP reiterates its demand for the establishment of Eminent Nigerians Group to manage donations towards mitigating the impact of COVID-19 and ensure that the palliatives get to venerable Nigerians without any political and bureaucratic bottlenecks”.

DATE - LINE BLUES: a seal invaluable

DATE - LINE BLUES is a franchise of  U2C designed to identify and address those little but very essential issues of our love relationships.

The franchise which actually debuted way back in 2008 as a radio magazine made a comeback in print in 2014 and now it's modified for social media exclusively for the SEB.

DATE - LINE BLUES a.k.a. D-LB is classified into three categories:

(1) Wedding Bells: This segment addresses your experience as an individual in the course of courtship or just before you walk up to the altar to say "I do" to your spouse.

(2) FlashBack: This bit of D-LB provides a platform for comparison between today's love and yesterday's love notes e;g. the way our grandparents played love with their partners or spouses way back.

(3) Counselling: This is where professional marriage counselors have the opportunity to impart to our youngsters, in particular, some salient facts about true love relationships and marriage.

Tell you what, it's all fun to be associated with D-LB. So much to learn, experience, giggle, and appreciate. D-LB has FOUR distinct breakers:

*I RECKON THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE HUMAN SPECIES IS A LACK OF ORIGINALITY IN SELF-DISPOSITION. THAT IS THE REASON I HAVE LEARNT NOT TO PUT MY TRUST BUT MUTUAL DISTRUST IN PEOPLE. IT THUS SAVES ME THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DANGERS OF POSSIBLE DISAPPOINTMENT. BUT WITH DATELINE BLUES I DO NOT REALLY NEED THAT PRINCIPLE*

*ON DATELINE BLUES SOMEONE HAS A RELATIONSHIP TO LEAD AND KEEP. THE PERSON IS SINCERE AND PROUD OF THE AFFAIR; WHAT DOES DATELINE BLUES DO? IT FLAUNTS IT TO THE WORLD AND THE WORLD DOFFS HER HAT FOR THAT PERSON AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY KEEPS INTRUDERS ON A CHECK. YOU CANNOT BEAT THE CONFIDENCE. TO FEATURE DATELINE BLUES THE LUCKY PERSON MUST BE FAITHFUL AND DEVOTED TO HIS OR HER PARTNER. IT IS A SERIOUS BUSINESS AND WE TREAT IT AS SUCH*

*“HELLO DARLING! JUST CALLING TO SAY I’D DO ANYTHING TO PROVE MY LOVE FOR YOU”. “THANK YOU, BUT FLAUNT IT ON DATELINE BLUES, THEN I’LL BELIEVE YOU”*

*“YOU HAVE GOT THE RELATIONSHIP. FLAUNT IT AND THE WORLD WOULD DOFF HER HAT FOR YOU”*

To be featured on "Wedding Bells" on DATELINE BLUES THE LUCKY PERSON MUST BE FAITHFUL AND DEVOTED TO HIS OR HER PARTNER. IT IS A SERIOUS BUSINESS AND WE TREAT IT AS SUCH. To qualify for the "Counselling" segment you must be either a Cleric or Marriage Counselor. For interest in the "FlashBack" segment, you should be at least in your late sixties.

Please, note that for every story or article or report you contribute to D-LB you would be given credits and copyright and have it shared across the world wide web.

CULTURAL DANCES FROM TARABA STATE

“In addition, upon the breach of the proposed section 9(1), section 9 (2)(a-b) provides the punishment with respect to a natural person and a corporate body respectively.

“The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has reiterated the need to fight against job outsourcing, especially in an organization’s core areas of operation.

“Multinational corporations in the telecoms, oil and gas sectors are currently contributing to the Nigeria economic crisis with their habit of outsourcing of workforce which an average Nigerian can be engaged in to other nationals thereby creating unemployment for its host country.

“After a critical examination of the provisions of the relevant laws and the practices as we have currently in the employment sector, I humbly urge this Honourable House to support this amendment bill of the Labour Act to mandate the regularization of an employee’s employment after six (6) months of employment and to prohibit outsourcing of employment in the employer’s core areas of operation and to further punish those in breach of this employment law.”

“I need to state that the Nasarawa State Kidnapping Act Prohibition Law was extensively deliberated and passed by the State House of Assembly.

“This law spelt out various offences relating to kidnapping and prescribed stringent punishment for perpetrators, such as life imprisonment and death penalty,”

“The Minimum Wage Act is already a law and every political office holder must respect the sanctity of our Constitution and the oaths of office they have sworn to uphold.

“If a worker is entitled to be paid his wages, the wages must be commensurate with what has been negotiated. In 90 per cent of the countries around the world, the minimum wage law is implemented and observed. So, we cannot be an exception.

“While appreciating those states and, even the Federal Government, that have paid all the workers under its employment, including arrears which have set the base and standard for states to follow, there is no excuse for any state not to pay workers a minimum wage that has been negotiated because 85 per cent of the Value Added Tax (VAT) increase goes to the states.

“We have empowered our state councils. Once they reach a situation where they think there is no commitment, we have given them the power to declare an action and withdraw their services.

“Many states have done that. In Ogun and Niger states, they did that before they were invited to the table. We don’t need to take any decision again to say that you need to do what you need to do.

“Once the state executive council feels that there is dilly-dallying on the minimum wage, which is already a law, they should be able to enforce their own right. We will support them. Where they need reinforcements from the headquarters, we will be there to support them.”

“We take cognizance of the fact that some Supreme Court justices and indeed, other judges, as well as judicial officers, have in the past suffered assaults, both formally and informally under the supervision of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

“Cognizant of the fact the Supreme Court infallibility is hinged on it’s finality, and not because it’s personnel (justices) are infallible, we reaffirm our faith and confidence in the judiciary, particularly, the Supreme Court which is still the only hope of the common man.

“Consequently, we express our unalloyed support for the leadership of our great party, the PDP, and hereby call for a review by the Supreme Court of all its earlier judgements,”

“Specialists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History determined that it was a piece of Yoruba origin,”

“It was also determined that it had been illegally exported”

“We have a policy under Governor Kayode Fayemi-led government. When we award contract, we expect the contractor to first mobilise to site and display capacity before financial mobilisation by government. That has been the standard.

“We awarded four road contracts at the same time in January. But unfortunately, Sharvet Nigeria Limited refused to mobilise to site and begin work while the three others are already working as agreed.

“Anytime we award contracts, we believe we are dealing with a contractor that has the competence and once this is lacking and we don’t want our people to suffer due to deplorable road conditions, it has to be revoked, which we did in the interest of our people,”

BYAZHIN - KUBWA ROAD IN 2013

Kubwa is a fast growing satellite town in Abuja, Nigeria.  But then we have a flash back of the "Byazhin - Kubwa Road, the state of the road as we saw it back then in 2013". This road particularly, links the very popular and densely populated "Byazhin - Across". While we cant wait to locate, capture and bring you the "Current State" of this road, we urge you to get acquainted with its "past" before we bring you its "present":

THINKING ALOUD

It's a crazy world we live in. The problems and challenges in the society are not novelty to any of us. We know the solutions. But where people are not ruled by the people they're interested in, it is foolhardy to proffer solutions and offer one's services where such are apparently not required by the rulers.

THE WAY OF THE WORLD

OTSEMOBOR is an undergraduate student. No, he is more than a student. I mean, he could approach anything in skirt no matter the given circle. He’s gifted in the act of winning over the opposite sex and has done this severally in favour of his peeps and himself. There was this exclusive party to be hosted by a popular Governor in West Africa. Ofcourse, Ose was not invited. But he had all the details. Don’t ask me how because I don’t know ‘how’. Anyway, he found his way into the party and without long he had spotted his catch.

“ Hello!” he said confidently as party jams fill the atmosphere.

“ Hi!” the lady responds arrogantly.

“We seem to be the only ones not catching the fun at this party, don’t you think so?” he fired.

“Please, excuse me. I’m not interested in the pleasure of any conversation. Thank you!” she snapped.

“Whoops! That was rather cold, lady. You haven’t even met me, before, have you?”

“And if I have, must I talk to you?” she boiled.

LAGOSIANS CONVERT KEKE-MARUWA TO CAR TO AVOID BAN

Following the recent ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles in some parts of Lagos, some commercial taxi operators have brought their ingenuity to bare by transforming their Keke into what now looks like a car ... or is it a bus? Well, we leave you to be the judge. As at press time comments on this invention could only be gotten from the Opera News platform. Below are a cross section of the comments:

“The affected companies failed to pay the established liabilities despite the long period
of time the agency gave them to regularise their tax status,’’

“Before LIRS embarks on such exercise, it must have sent at least two letter of notices to the management of the affected firms reminding them of their tax liabilities.

“The Demand Notice expiration is 30 days, while the Letter of Intention expires seven days after issuance.

“So, before now both the demand notice letter and the letter of intention have been sent to the management of the companies which they failed to act on,”

“Basically, we are hoping to reach out to as many students as possible and motivate them to be able to act well and make better choices for their health, considering the Valentine euphoria”

Hypo launches nationwide campaign against Lassa Fever

While sticking to its core values and establishing market leadership in the environmental hygiene and homecare space, Hypo, makers of Nigeria’s beloved bleach has formally launched a Nationwide Sanitization campaign in open markets to curb the prevalence of Lassa fever, especially in the most affected states in Nigeria.

Nigeria has registered an upsurge in the number of Lassa Fever cases since the beginning of the year, with 365 positive cases and 47 deaths reported from 23 states across the country.

According to the week five situation report on the disease released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday, the number of states reporting at least a case of the disease rose to 23 from 19 in the previous week.

“we are here to discuss very passionately and sincerely on the projects to see how we can move various projects that have been abandoned”

“Maybe as a result of change of leadership and as a result of our own knowledge of how procurements are done before, which we found them to be abnormal and we have told the world that we are not here for witch-hunting”

“I’m not here to beg anybody, I’m here with my lawyers, you either do it or leave it. I am not interested on anything that you have done in the past, but what I am going to do now, I will do it very well. CGC, I know you very well, I have given you over a 100 billion contract in Abuja, and you have done it, the same thing with engr. Eze, who was in charge of Bureau of Public Enterprises, and procurement and due process”

“We are not EFCC, if we are unable to agree, we will go somewhere because government is large. You have the choice of doing it, if you don’t want to do it, leave it and pay us our advance money that we paid you so that we can get other contractors to do the job for us”

“regardless of what happened in the past, we want to move forward, we will assure the people of Bauchi state that we will not have abandoned projects”.

“After more than 10 years of conflict between non-state armed groups and the Nigerian military, the situation is only getting worse

“ The conflict is intensifying and the needs are massive. The United Nations estimates that there are more than two million people who have been displaced from their homes due to violence, and more than seven million who depend entirely on humanitarian aid to survive.

The most serious problem is that there are more than a million people living in areas controlled by non-state armed groups – humanitarian organizations do not have access to these areas, and the people living there do not receive any kind of aid at all.

“The conflict may be nothing new, but this crisis is extreme, and it is happening right now; in our projects we witness the impact that it has on human beings.”

“This is a dream come true and we thank God that we are witnessing this great transformation of the orientation camp.”

“As a government, I believe that we should improve on the facilities that we have in this orientation camp as we are collaborating with the Federal Government in different ways.

“Just few days ago, on Monday, a Court of Appeal was inaugurated in Asaba, I am happy that we have the Court of Appeal and it has been described as apparently, one of the best in the country.

“These partnerships are in the best interest of our people and in the best interest of our state and here at Issele-Uku is the first point of call for members of the NYSC who are posted to Delta State.

“The graduates numbering thousands who are posted to Delta, apparently, will work in Delta State and will impact on the state and its people, so, it is only human that we make them comfortable to bring out their best to serve the state and our nation.

“I appreciate the work of the contractors that worked here to see that these projects are completed for inauguration today; it is my hope and expectations that when we leave in 2023, this NYSC Camp will be totally a changed environment that will be comfortable for the Corps members.

“It gladdens my heart that we are here to inaugurate a 700-capacity headspace hostel for Corps members; four blocks of twin 3-bedroom flats and several other projects; in the next couple of weeks, construction work will commence on the internal roads, a multi-purpose hall and we shall also, construct a hostel to be named after Chief (Sir) B.S.C.
