Bride, Bridesmaids, and Eight Others Abducted in Sokoto
In the
early hours of Sunday, November 30, 2025, tragedy struck Chacho village in
Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State when armed men stormed the
community and abducted a bride-to-be, her bridesmaid, and eight other
residents.
The attack occurred around 1:30 a.m., just hours before the bride’s wedding ceremony was scheduled to take place. According to eyewitnesses, the bride was preparing for her big day when the assailants invaded, shattering what should have been a moment of joy into one of fear and despair.
The
victims included mostly women, with only one man among those taken. During the
raid, one person sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical
treatment.
Residents
expressed deep frustration over the delayed response of security operatives,
who reportedly arrived about an hour after the attackers had fled.
Community
members described the incident as tragic and called on the government to take
its responsibility seriously by ensuring the protection of lives and property.
The
Sokoto State Police Command, through its spokesman DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed
the attack, noting that preliminary information had been gathered and further
details were being compiled.
This
abduction adds to a growing wave of mass kidnappings that have plagued Nigeria
in recent months, underscoring the worsening insecurity in several regions.
The
incident in Sokoto was not isolated. Earlier the same day, gunmen attacked a
newly established Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local
Government Area of Kogi State.
Worshippers
fled in panic as gunshots rang out, and the pastor, popularly known as Orlando,
was abducted along with his wife and several congregants. These back-to-back
attacks highlight the escalating crisis of banditry and kidnapping across
Nigeria, leaving communities in turmoil and raising urgent questions about the
effectiveness of current security measures.
The
abduction of the bride and her bridesmaids is particularly poignant, as it
robbed a family and community of a moment of celebration, replacing it with
anguish and uncertainty.
It serves as a grim reminder of the human cost of insecurity and the pressing need for decisive action to restore peace and safety in affected areas.
