Two Military Aircraft Crash in Niger State
On
Saturday, December 6, 2025, tragedy struck in Niger State when two Nigerian Air
Force (NAF) aircraft crashed near Karabonde, a small settlement in Borgu Local
Government Area.
The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. and immediately drew attention due to its proximity to sensitive military installations, including the New Busa Air Force base and the Wawa military cantonment, where hundreds of suspected terrorists are currently being held.
Eyewitnesses
reported seeing the aircraft engulfed in flames, with video footage later
confirming the fiery wreckage. Local residents stated that two pilots sustained
injuries, though the full extent of their condition remains unclear.
At the time
of reporting, the cause of the crash had not been determined, and officials
have yet to release an official statement.
The crash
site’s location raises significant security concerns. The area is already under
heightened surveillance following the abduction of more than 300 students in
Papiri, Niger State.
In response to that crisis, the Nigerian Air Force had deployed additional aircraft to bolster peacekeeping and reconnaissance missions across the North-central region.
Sources confirmed that Air Force jets have been actively
surveying the area in recent days, underscoring the tense security environment
in which this accident occurred.
While the
military continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, the
incident highlights the risks faced by personnel operating in conflict-prone
zones. It also underscores the challenges of maintaining air operations in
regions where both insurgent activity and humanitarian crises demand constant
vigilance.
This
remains a developing story, and further updates are expected as the Nigerian
Air Force provides clarity on the causes, casualties, and implications of the
crash.
