FG Unveils Official Theme for Nigeria's 2025 Independence Anniversary
In a
symbolic gesture of unity and forward momentum, the Federal Government of
Nigeria has officially unveiled the theme for the nation’s 65th Independence
Anniversary: “Nigeria
@ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, through a statement issued by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).
The theme
encapsulates a call to action for every Nigerian, across government
institutions, the private sector, civil society, and the general populace, to
contribute actively to the building of a peaceful, prosperous, and progressive
nation. It reflects the country’s resilience since gaining independence on
October 1, 1960, and aligns with the current administration’s Renewed Hope
Agenda, which emphasizes national consolidation and aspirational
growth.
According
to the OSGF, the theme was chosen to underscore the importance of
collaboration, patriotism, and shared responsibility in shaping Nigeria’s
future. It is expected that all government programmes and activities will be
tailored to reinforce this message, ensuring it resonates across every facet of
national life, from policy to public engagement.
To mark
the 65th Independence Anniversary, a series of commemorative events have been
scheduled. These include a Juma’at prayer at the Abuja Central Mosque on
Friday, September 26, followed by an inter-denominational church service at the
Ecumenical Centre on Sunday, September 28. The celebrations will culminate in a
World Press Conference hosted by Secretary to the Government of the Federation,
George Akume, on Monday, September 29, in Abuja.
This
year’s theme not only celebrates Nigeria’s historical journey but also serves
as a rallying cry for collective action toward a more unified and thriving
nation.
As the
country prepares to commemorate 65 years of independence, the message is clear:
every Nigerian has a role to play in shaping the destiny of the nation.
