Abdullahi Ganduje, Fmr. National Chairman, APC
-TOWARDS 2027-
Ganduje’s Political Resurgence and Kano APC’s 2027 Strategy
In a
dramatic return to the political stage, former National Chairman of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) and two-term governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi
Ganduje, has reemerged with strategic intent ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general
elections.
Just three months after resigning from his role as APC National Chairman, Ganduje convened a closed-door meeting with Kano APC stakeholders in Abuja, signaling a renewed push to reclaim political dominance in the state.
The gathering, held on September 25, 2025, brought together an influential bloc of party leaders including Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Senator Kawu Sumaila, members of the House of Representatives, and other prominent figures.
The central agenda: fortifying the party’s structure and mobilizing grassroots
support to wrest Kano State from the grip of the New Nigeria People’s Party
(NNPP), currently led by Governor Abba Yusuf.
Addressing
the stakeholders, Ganduje emphasized the importance of the ongoing Continuous
Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, urging party members to galvanize citizens
to register. “Let’s see how we can encourage our people to go and register. So
far, we are doing very well, and we want to assure the people of Kano State
that our members will register, so that during the election, we come out in
large numbers and win,” he stated.
Deputy
Senate President Barau echoed Ganduje’s sentiments, pledging unwavering support
for President Bola Tinubu and highlighting federal projects and educational
institutions delivered to Kano under Tinubu’s administration. “We have never
asked for anything from him that he has not done for us,” Barau affirmed.
Ganduje’s
return comes after his resignation on June 27, 2025, citing “urgent and
important personal matters.” His tenure as APC National Chairman, from August
2023 to June 2025, was marked by internal zoning controversies but maintained
the party’s national influence.
Following
his departure, Ali Dalori briefly assumed leadership until Nentawe Yilwatda was
elected substantive chairman on July 24. Ganduje was subsequently appointed
Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in
July.
The
meeting also spotlighted recent defections from the NNPP to the APC, including
legislators, commissioners, and even the Secretary to the State Government.
Ganduje described these shifts as evidence of growing confidence in the APC’s
vision and Tinubu’s leadership. Meanwhile, speculation swirls around a possible
return of NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Yusuf to the APC,
though confirmation remains elusive.
As the
2027 elections loom, Ganduje’s reentry into active politics and the
consolidation of Kano APC leadership signal a calculated effort to reclaim the
state and reassert influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The stage
is set, and the battle for Kano promises to be one of the most closely watched
contests in the coming electoral cycle.
