-Special Report-
Nigeria @ 65
Inter-Denominational Church Service
On
Sunday, September 28, 2025, Nigeria marked its 65th Independence Anniversary
with a solemn and spiritually resonant Inter-Denominational Church Service held
at the National Ecumenical Christian Centre in Abuja.
The event formed a cornerstone of the official celebrations themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” and was attended by a cross-section of dignitaries, religious leaders, government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Representing
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who
delivered a stirring message on unity and shared responsibility. In his
remarks, Akpabio emphasized that “a divided nation is a conquered nation,”
urging Nigerians to embrace collective action and national cohesion. His full
address is captured in "A Divided Nation Is a Conquered Nation" -
Akpabio at ..., where he calls for a renewed commitment to the ideals of
patriotism and service.
The
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, delivered
the vote of thanks, highlighting the bold reforms underway under President
Tinubu’s administration. Akume described these reforms as foundational for
lasting transformation across critical sectors such as healthcare, education,
energy, and infrastructure. He called on citizens to remain patient and
constructive, noting that the sacrifices being made today are paving the way
for a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
The
spiritual tone of the service was set by Bishop Francis Wale Oke, Founder of
Sword of the Spirit Ministries, who preached on the theme “The Power of Unity
in Building a Great Nation.” Drawing from biblical texts such as Psalm 133 and
Genesis 11, Bishop Oke underscored the divine affirmation of unity’s potential,
declaring that Nigeria could become a global force if its people stood
together. His sermon is featured in Nigeria's at 65 Anniversary
Inter-Denominational Church ..., offering a powerful reflection on national
purpose and divine guidance.
The
service also included heartfelt prayers for the nation, its leaders, and
institutions. Dignitaries present included the First Lady, Senator Oluremi
Tinubu (represented by Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi), Finance Minister Wale Edun,
Minister of State for Health Dr. Isaq Adekunle Salako, and the Head of the
Civil Service, Mrs. Esther Walson-Jack. Service chiefs and heads of key
security agencies such as the Chief of Defence Staff, Inspector-General of
Police, and Controller-General of Immigration were also in attendance,
alongside ambassadors from countries including the UK, Mexico, and South Sudan.
A broader
view of the ceremony and its atmosphere is available in Watch The
Interdenominational Church Service In Abuja To ..., which captures the worship,
music, and communal spirit that defined the gathering.
In a
parallel observance, Nigerian pilgrims held a symbolic Independence Service at
Mount Nebo, Jordan, reflecting the global reach of the celebration and the
spiritual solidarity of Nigerians abroad. This unique moment is documented in

prayers and reflections from the diaspora.
The
Nigeria @ 65 Inter-Denominational Church Service was not merely a ceremonial
event, it was a profound call to action, unity, and faith. It reminded citizens
that the journey of nation-building is both spiritual and civic, and that the
strength of Nigeria lies in its people’s ability to rise above divisions and
work together for a common future.
