Nigeria’s Economic Turnaround - President Tinubu’s Declaration in Ibadan

In a momentous address delivered during the coronation of Oba Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu proclaimed that Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner for good.”

The declaration, made on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, marked a significant milestone in the administration’s economic narrative, coming two years after the introduction of sweeping reforms aimed at stabilizing and revitalizing the nation’s financial landscape.

President Tinubu, speaking with visible emotion and pride, described the economic recovery as the fruit of collective sacrifice, endurance, and unwavering support from the Nigerian people. He acknowledged the pain endured during the reform period, likening it to “a painful surgery,” but assured citizens that the nation had emerged stronger and was now on a path of growth and prosperity. “There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel,” he declared, emphasizing that the worst was behind and the future held promise for all Nigerians.

The President’s remarks were not only a celebration of economic progress but also a tribute to the resilience of the Nigerian spirit. He thanked the people for their perseverance and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the benefits of the reforms would soon be felt across all sectors.

Tinubu’s presence at the coronation was deeply symbolic, as he referred to it as a “homecoming,” highlighting his longstanding relationship with Oba Ladoja, a former governor and senator, whose political journey has been marked by resilience and triumph over adversity.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State also addressed the gathering, presenting the staff of office and certificate to the new Olubadan. He praised the coronation as a unifying moment for Ibadanland, resolving longstanding disputes over traditional leadership. The governor expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for honoring the occasion and reaffirmed the importance of preserving cultural heritage and institutional integrity.

Oba Ladoja, in his acceptance speech, reflected on his journey from Mogaji of the Arusa family in Isale Osi to the throne of his forefathers. He acknowledged the divine orchestration of his ascension and thanked President Tinubu for his presence and support.

The coronation, steeped in tradition and political significance, served as a backdrop for the President’s optimistic economic message, a message that resonated with hope, unity, and the promise of a better tomorrow.
