Nigerian Sues UK Government For Denying Him Entry On Arriving Manchester Airport

A Nigerian, Adeyemi Opebiyi, has sued the United Kingdom for allegedly turning him back from entering the country after he had been granted a visa and had flown from Nigeria to the Manchester Airport, Punch reports.

According to the report, Opebiyi, who described himself as the Head of Operations, Sabi Micro Finance Bank Ltd, said on arriving at Manchester Airport on March 14, 2021, he was stopped by the UK Immigration official, who insisted that he must be interviewed before he could be allowed into the UK.

The report stated further that Opebiyi claimed that he was made to wait for eight hours at the immigration desk before he was eventually interviewed by an Immigration officer, who asked him to draw the logo of Sabi Micro Finance Bank Ltd, among other things, as a way of verifying his claim that he works with the financial institution.

NAPTIP will engage town criers to facilitate fight against human trafficking

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced it will engage local town criers to help in spreading its message against human trafficking.

Speaking on Friday, August 13, at the agency's headquarters in Abuja while hosting a delegation from the International Organisation for Migration led by its Country Chief of Mission, Franz Celestin, NAPTIP’s Head, Press and Public Relations Unit, Stella Nezan, made the revelation in a statement titled, ‘NAPTIP, IOM set to improve collaboration to tackle human trafficking and irregular migration.’

According to the statement, the agency’s Director-General, Basheer Muhammed said NAPTIP's mandates touch various families in the country.

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II has welcomed a set of quadruplets from his fifth wife, Queen (Oloi) Aisosa Ewuare II into the Benin Royal Family, Vanguard reports.

According to the report, Oba Ewuare made the announcement at his palace on Friday in Benin amidst jubilation from guests.

The news of arrival of the quadruplets which are three boys and a girl, according to Premium Times’ report, was delivered in a statement posted on the Oba of Benin’s official Facebook page on Friday night by Frank Irabor, the Secretary of the Benin traditional Council where he described the birth of the babies as an “unprecedented and historical event” in the Benin Royal family.
