Reviving Karu: FCT Minister Flags Off Road Reconstruction Project
In a bold
stride toward infrastructural renewal, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has officially flagged off the emergency
reconstruction of the Karu Road, a 5.4-kilometre stretch from the Karu
Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction within the Abuja Municipal Area
Council.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in the FCT Administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life in satellite towns and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The
reconstruction project is not limited to the main Karu Road. It has been
expanded to include several adjoining roads critical to the daily lives of Karu
residents. These include the Customs Clinic Junction to CBN Quarters Junction,
NIA Quarters Road, Primus Hospital Road, and the road leading to the EFCC. All
roads under this initiative will be equipped with solar-powered streetlights, a
move expected to enhance security and stimulate economic activity in the area.
During
the flag-off ceremony, Minister Wike emphasized the importance of fulfilling
campaign promises and delivering tangible development to underserved
communities. He praised the efforts of AMAC Chairman Christopher Maiakalangu
and former Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, whose advocacy played a pivotal role in
expanding the scope of the project. Wike also expressed confidence in the
contractor, Messrs Abdul Val Nigeria Limited, citing their successful
completion of similar projects in the Ushafa area of Bwari.
The
Minister charged the contractor to complete the project within ten months,
assuring residents that the initiative would not only improve road
infrastructure but also transform the business landscape of Karu. He urged the
youth and community members to take ownership of the project, highlighting that
its success would directly contribute to their prosperity.
Dr.
Mariya Mahmoud, the FCT Minister of State, echoed Wike’s sentiments, expressing
deep appreciation to President Tinubu for his visionary leadership. She lauded
the Renewed Hope Agenda for its life-changing impact and commended Wike’s
pragmatic approach to governance, which she said had been instrumental in
reshaping Abuja’s infrastructure.
As the
reconstruction begins, the people of Karu are witnessing a long-awaited
transformation. The project stands as a testament to the power of responsive
leadership and the promise of inclusive development, bringing renewed hope to a
community that has long yearned for progress
