FCTA PRESS RELEASE
FCT MINISTER CHARGES CONTRACTORS TO ENSURE TIMELY DELIVERY OF PROJECTS FOR PRESIDENT TINUBU’S 3RD ANNIVERSARY
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom
Wike, has charged contractors handling mega projects across the nation’s
capital to ensure that all agreed timelines are met ahead of President Bola
Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary in office celebrations.
Speaking on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, during an extensive inspection tour
of strategic infrastructure sites, which covered the Jahi-Gwarimpa Interchange,
the Airport Road to Kuje corridor, the Kuje to Gwagwalada dualization, the
redesigned City Gate, and the Wuse/Central Business District link road, the
Minister emphasized that the "Renewed Hope" agenda’s transformation
of Abuja must be fully realized through strict adherence to project schedules.
While reviewing the status of the various projects, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the remodeling City Gate project, handled by Julius Berger, describing it as a landmark that will redefine the entry experience to the nation’s capital.
"It’s a very good and beautiful work. In the next month, anyone coming to Abuja will see a different landscape," the Minister remarked. "This is what is required to let you know that you are in a capital city. If Abuja residents require the best, then we are going to provide the best", he said.
He further revealed that the City Gate will be a high-tech hub featuring
24-hour surveillance, permanent security installations, and AI-enabled monitoring
systems to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
At the Jahi–Gwarimpa Interchange being executed by CBC Global, Barr.
Wike expressed confidence in the quality of work, noting that the project is
expected to reach 95% completion within the next two weeks. Similarly, he
commended Arab Contractors for their work on Airport Road to Kuje Junction,
expressing optimism that the job will be wrapped up by the end of May.
However, the Minister served a note of caution at the Wuse/Central Area
link road, where he praised the engineering quality but expressed concern over
the pace of delivery.
"Quality is not in doubt, but I’m still doubtful about completion
on time. I’m pleading with the company to keep to the timing, because these are
projects we have scheduled to be inaugurated for the third anniversary of this
administration", the Minister said.
Acknowledging the massive volume of work set for inauguration, Barr.
Wike admitted that the list of completed projects is very long to enumerate. He
however said key projects slated for the anniversary include major water
treatment and supply projects in Bwari, Karu, Orozo, and Ushafa and key road
arteries in Katampe, Gishiri, Gaduwa, and the Research Institution area (Body
of Benchers/Nile University).
Others, according to him, include satellite town road interventions such
as the Bill Clinton drive to Tunga Madaki Road, sections of the Kuje–Gwagwalada
corridor, and the Bazango/Kubwa road network, as well as the final relocation
and development of the Apo Mechanic site in Wasa.
"The project list is bigger than I can count at the moment. By the
time the committee finishes the assessment, we will have the full details of
all the projects. We are very happy with the level of commitment by various
companies, and we will do our part to fulfill our financial obligations",
the Minister stressed.
