FCTA PRESS RELEASE
FCT TARGETS 20-DAY COMMISSIONING
MARATHON AS MINISTER INSPECTS LANDMARK JUDICIAL, HOUSING, ROAD PROJECTS
- SAYS SPREAD OF DEVELOPMENT TO SATELLITE TOWNS SHOWS IMPACT OF GOVERNANCE UNDER TINUBU ADMINISTRATION
The Minister of the Federal Capital
Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced a 20-day project
commissioning marathon across the Territory next month to mark the third
anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Barr. Wike made the disclosure on
Tuesday, May 26, 2026, while briefing journalists after an extensive inspection
of critical judicial, residential, and road infrastructure projects in Abuja.
“What the people want is to feel
the impact of governance. Indeed, Nigerians are not interested in ethnicity or
religion. What they are interested in is good governance, and we have provided
it”, the Minister said.
The Minister emphasized the
administration’s deliberate push to extend infrastructure beyond the city
centre to long-neglected satellite towns and rural communities.
“Can you state how many governments
have been able to impact on the satellite towns like the current
administration? This is the first time they can really know that there's a
government in FCT, not just within the city, but going to the satellite towns”,
he said.
He cited the Wasa Informal Sector site for the relocation of Apo Mechanic Village as a prime example. “You can imagine when the Apo mechanic village people will go down to the informal sector in Wasa, what the place will look like. That is what you call governance”, he said, while confirming that access roads and streetlights at Wasa are fully operational, and work on water connection, a dedicated police station, and staff quarters are ongoing.
Providing updates on projects
inspected, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of
work, noting that contractors have kept their promise to deliver by the end of
May.
“The Abuja Division of the Court of
Appeal in Dakibiyu, Jabi District is presently standing at 98% completion with
the courtrooms fully furnished and cooling systems active while final touches
like painting are underway”, he disclosed.
“The Judges’ Quarters in Katampe
District, comprising residential accommodations for justices of the FCT High
Court, Federal High Court, and Court of Appeal, are now fully completed and
furnished. Foundations have also been set for the Industrial Court residences
and the Code of Conduct Tribunal”, he added.
Other completed projects include
the Collector Road CN2 in Katampe, with functional streetlights, and the main
carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX Stage 2) connecting Apo to
Wasa District. “The project is virtually finished with the bridge completed
while streetlights are being installed, and the final wearing course of asphalt
is also being laid”, the Minister said.
Barr. Wike announced that the FCT
Administration will dedicate roughly 20 days to commissioning projects across
the Territory.
“This is governance in action. This
is a direct touch, a positive impact on the lives of the people. The
commissioning will cover major rural interventions, including satellite town
water schemes in Karu and Bwari, the Gbazango and Arab roads in Kubwa, and the
15-kilometer Gomani-to-Yangoji rural road project in Kwali. I hope that we will
be able to bring the President to commission at least one of the roads in the
satellite towns”, the Minister added.
Responding to questions on the
attention given to the judiciary, the Minister said the administration’s
approach is comprehensive and multi-sectoral.
“It has nothing to do with the
judiciary alone. We are providing water to rural areas. All sectors will be
touched”, Wike maintained.
He explained that providing safe
residential quarters and modernized working conditions for judges is a basic
requirement for an independent judiciary that can dispense justice swiftly.
The Minister urged the media to
tour rural communities with the Education Secretary to witness massive, ongoing
renovations across primary and secondary schools in the FCT.
He added that the visible impact of
governance across the Territory reflects a change from what used to be. “Today
there is a change from what used to be in terms of voting in the FCT”, he
noted, referencing the outcome of the recently concluded Area Council election
where the ruling party won in the Presidential Villa for the first time.
