Opening Ceremony and Medical Outreach

The Press Week is scheduled to commence on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with a free medical outreach at the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Utako. Organized in collaboration with Nizamiya Hospital, the outreach is intended to provide general medical check-ups, eye screening, blood pressure and sugar tests, and health consultations. NUJ FCT Chairman, Grace Ike, highlights the importance of prioritizing journalists’ health, given the demanding nature of their profession.

Health Walk

On Monday, May 18, 2026, is a Health Walk, beginning at Julius Berger Roundabout at 7:00 a.m. This initiative is aimed at promoting fitness and healthy living among journalists and residents of Abuja.

Press Week Lecture and Awards

The highlight of the week is the Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony, holding on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Lagos Osun Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. The event will start at 10:00 a.m., with participants urged to dress in the official NUJ FCT Ankara attire. The lecture will provide a platform for discourse on pressing issues in journalism, while the awards is to recognize outstanding contributions to the profession.

Educational Engagement

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, the NUJ FCT Council will host a Secondary School Quiz Competition at its Secretariat. This initiative is designed to foster academic excellence and media awareness among students, encouraging the next generation to appreciate the role of journalism in society.

Social Finale

The week is expected to close on Friday, May 22, 2026, with a Jean Party at the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Utako, starting at 3:00 p.m. Prospective attendees are encouraged to dress in various shades of denim, creating a relaxed and festive atmosphere to close the week’s activities.
