“According to America’s National Center for Biotechnology Information, children inherit pairs of genes from their parents. A child gets one set of genes from the father and one set from the mother. These genes can match up in many ways to make different combinations. This is why many family members look a lot alike and others don’t look like each other at all but, each of them will exhibit certain traits from their parents.
“Meanwhile,
in the African context, we are more likely to attribute a child’s good outcome
to God and the bad outcome to the devil. But that’s just a mixed philosophy,
because God has never descended to homes in his effort to raise or train a
child, rather, he will always utilize the human medium (parents / guardians) to
raise them.

WAITING | And why won't I shed tears for the rest of my life if I so care? - Mother
MOTHER
And why won’t I shed tears for the rest of my life if I care? Darling, I’m a woman. I know how painful it is to bear a child. So, how do you expect me to feel when I suddenly wake up to realize that my only daughter is gone … just like that, eh?
FATHER
Mind you, dear, Rosie is not dead.
MOTHER
Yes, she’s only away. But what
difference does that make? I can’t see her when I want to. She doesn’t visit
us. She’s alive, yes. But I don’t feel her presence anywhere. So, tell me, what
difference is there - dead or alive?

TAKEAWAY | Screen Time for Kids
“Screen time”, according to Wikipedia is the amount of time spent using a device with a screen such as a smartphone, computer, television, or video game console. Thus, research has it that “Screen time” is correlated with mental and physical harm in child development. So, we now ask “How bad is screen time for kids?”
While we begin to ponder on that, it is important to note that the positive or negative health effects of screen time are influenced by levels and content exposure and to prevent harmful exposure, some governments and family homes have placed regulations on its usage.
According to a recent publication on Yahoo lifestyle, “Screen time has been a hot-button topic for parents for decades and particularly over the past few years. The rise of personal devices like tablets, phones, and smartwatches, along with the use of screens in schools, has made screen time common for kids. Data also shows that screen time skyrocketed during the pandemic as parents struggled to juggle working with managing their children being at home.

EDITORIAL COLLECTIONS | AI TECHNOLOGY ADVANTAGE AMIDST FEARS
Artificial intelligence (AI), according to Britannica, “is the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. The term is frequently applied to the project of developing systems endowed with the intellectual processes characteristic of humans, such as the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience”. But then Wikipedia takes it further this way, “Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines or software, as opposed to the intelligence of humans or animals. It is also the field of study in computer science that develops and studies intelligent machines. "AI" may also refer to the machines themselves” These definitions ideally seem to conclude on the basis and perhaps, the future of AI in human society.
The primary belief by most people about AI technology is simply the fear associated with the possible loss of jobs by humans to robots in the future. This is already widely evident across some organizations and government administrations. We can obviously say that AI is indeed a new nature set to change science either for better or for worse.
According to an article in Nature, an online publication “Now is the time to determine which aspects of research and society AI can be safely integrated into, and how to go about it. The coming deluge of AI-powered information must not be allowed to fuel a flood of untrustworthy science. Science and humanity stand to benefit from AI, provided it is applied in the right way. A comprehensive understanding of the potential dangers of this technology is an essential prerequisite for its safe use.

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR, PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA IN COMMEMORATION OF THE 63RD INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY OF NIGERIA ON SUNDAY, 1ST OCTOBER, 2023
It is my unique honour to address you on this day, the 63rd anniversary of our nation’s independence, both as the President of our dear country and, simply, as a fellow Nigerian.
2. On this solemn yet hopeful day, let us commend our founding fathers and mothers. Without them, there would be no modern Nigeria. From the fading embers of colonialism, their activism, dedication and leadership gave life to the belief in Nigeria as a sovereign and independent nation.
3. Let us, at this very moment, affirm that as Nigerians, we are all endowed with the sacred rights and individual gifts that God has bestowed on us as a nation and as human beings. No one is greater or lesser than the other. The triumphs that Nigeria has achieved shall define us. The travails we have endured shall strengthen us. And no other nation or power on this earth shall keep us from our rightful place and destiny. This nation belongs to you, dear people. Love and cherish it as your very own.

Hurray! As a nominee by The SEB Team, the SEB PAGE of FAME (SPF) is set to debut here soon with none other than Nigeria's erstwhile Minister of Culture, Tourism, and National Orientation, HIGH CHIEF EDEM DUKE.
A businessman and politician, High Chief Duke within his tenure as Minister, had about ten Agencies and Parastatals under his purview. ‘Great task ahead’, one would recall. But then in one of his interviews with The Nation, he said: “The task is daunting. However, I cannot jump ship; I’m in this for the whole hog. The good thing is that I have the opportunity to make a case for the sector before the Federal Executive Council, FEC, and will continue to do so.”
Now check out the following snippets from one of his media interviews as he talks about the ‘Fascinating Nigeria Project’:
