PDP Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, and Others for Anti-Party Activities
The
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a dramatic step at its 2025 National
Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, by expelling several high-profile members over
allegations of anti-party activities.
Among those expelled are Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kamaldeen Ajibade, Austin Nwachukwu, and other notable figures.
According
to the official statement released by the party, the decision was ratified by
an overwhelming majority of delegates, underscoring the PDP’s determination to
restore unity, discipline, and focus ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party
emphasized that internal divisions and acts of disloyalty had long undermined
its progress, and this expulsion was seen as a landmark move to safeguard its
future.
The
motion for expulsion was initiated by Chief Olabode George, a respected party
chieftain and former national vice-chairman (South), and seconded by Samaila
Buga, chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State. Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi
and chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, subsequently put the motion to a
voice vote, which was overwhelmingly supported by delegates.
None of
the expelled members have issued official statements in response to the
development. However, late in the evening, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special
Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to Wike, reacted with a
subtle jab. On his official X account, he mocked the convention, describing it
as a social gathering rather than a serious political event, quipping that the
delegates had gone to Ibadan to “start dirty December in November.”
This
expulsion marks one of the most consequential disciplinary actions in the PDP’s
recent history. It reflects the party’s attempt to reassert control and
discipline among its ranks, especially as it prepares for the challenges of the
2027 elections. The move also signals a shift in the party’s internal dynamics,
as it seeks to eliminate dissent and consolidate its base around a unified
vision.
In
essence, the expulsion of Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, and others is both a political
and symbolic act. It demonstrates the PDP’s resolve to confront internal crises
head-on, while sending a clear message that loyalty and discipline will be
non-negotiable in the party’s march toward reclaiming national relevance.
