Poverty Not Our Milestone, We’ll Come Out Of It — Tinubu

Tinubu’s Declaration: “Poverty Not Our Milestone, We’ll Come Out Of It”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently delivered a resolute and optimistic message to Nigerians, asserting that poverty will not define the nation’s future.

Speaking at the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to reversing Nigeria’s economic challenges and laying the foundation for long-term prosperity.

In his address, Tinubu acknowledged the current hardships facing the country, stating, “We may be poor; poverty is not going to be our milestone. We are going to come out of it.” This declaration was not merely rhetorical, it was framed within the broader context of his government’s reform agenda. He explained that although the reforms undertaken so far have been difficult, they are essential to repositioning Nigeria’s economy on a strong and enduring footing.

The President’s remarks were part of a broader appeal to national stakeholders, particularly the media, to play a constructive role in shaping public discourse and supporting national development. He urged editors and journalists to critique government policies with fairness and knowledge, reinforcing the idea that the media has a vital role in fostering transparency and accountability.

Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s dedication to securing the nation, stabilizing the economy, and expanding opportunities for all citizens. He acknowledged that the path to economic recovery is fraught with challenges but maintained that the government remains steadfast in its mission to uplift Nigerians from poverty and build a resilient economic structure.

This statement comes at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with inflation, unemployment, and the ripple effects of subsidy removals and currency reforms.

Tinubu’s message, therefore, serves both as a reassurance and a call to collective action. By framing poverty as a temporary condition rather than a permanent identity, he seeks to inspire hope and galvanize support for his administration’s policies.

President Tinubu’s declaration that “poverty is not our milestone” reflects a strategic narrative aimed at redefining Nigeria’s trajectory. It underscores his belief in the transformative power of reform and the resilience of the Nigerian people.

Whether this vision materializes will depend on the effectiveness of policy implementation and the collaborative efforts of all sectors of society.
