President Tinubu Commends Nigerian Military for Their Sacrifices and Dedication
In a
powerful and heartfelt address delivered at the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE)
conference in Abuja on Wednesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid glowing
tribute to the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces, acknowledging their
unwavering commitment to national security and their willingness to risk their
lives in defense of the country.
The President’s remarks, encapsulated in the phrase “They put their lives on the line,” underscored the gravity of the sacrifices made daily by military personnel in the face of persistent security challenges.
President
Tinubu emphasized that the Nigerian military, alongside other security
agencies, continues to work tirelessly to safeguard the nation’s territorial
integrity and ensure the safety of its citizens. He noted that their efforts
are particularly commendable given the ongoing threats posed by terrorism,
banditry, and other forms of violent criminality.
In his
speech, Tinubu posed a series of reflective questions to the audience and the
broader Nigerian public: “Are we doing something about it? Are we inspiring the
armed forces? Are we encouraging them to fight?” These rhetorical questions
were aimed at stirring a collective sense of responsibility among Nigerians to
support and uplift the morale of the military.
The
President’s remarks come at a time when insecurity remains a pressing concern
across various regions of Nigeria. From insurgency in the northeast to banditry
and kidnapping in the northwest and central parts of the country, the military
has been at the forefront of efforts to restore peace and stability.
Tinubu
acknowledged these realities, stating that while the challenges are formidable,
the courage and resilience of the armed forces deserve national recognition and
encouragement.
He
further asserted that the defense of Nigeria’s sovereignty is not solely the
duty of the military but a shared obligation that requires the active support
of all citizens. By highlighting the personal risks undertaken by soldiers, many
of whom operate in hostile and life-threatening environments, Tinubu sought to humanize
their struggle and galvanize public appreciation for their service. He
described their work as not only essential but heroic, calling on Nigerians to
stand behind the military with both moral and material support.
The
President’s address also served as a reaffirmation of his administration’s
commitment to strengthening national security. He reiterated that the
government remains determined to defeat terrorism and other threats to peace,
and that this resolve must be matched by a unified national front that values
and supports its defenders.
President Tinubu’s tribute to the Nigerian military was both a
commendation and a call to action. By spotlighting the sacrifices of the armed
forces and urging citizens to recognize their valor, he reinforced the notion
that national security is a collective endeavor. His words, “They put their
lives on the line to defend the sovereignty of this country. It is our
responsibility”, resonated as a solemn reminder of the price of peace and the
duty of a grateful nation to honor those who secure it.
