Father Arrested for Abusing His Daughters in Delta
The
shocking case of a father arrested in Delta State, Nigeria, has drawn
widespread attention and outrage. On November 15, 2025, the Delta State Police
Command confirmed the arrest of a 54-year-old man, Mr. Edward Odega, for
allegedly defiling his three daughters over a period of seven years.
The disturbing abuse came to light during an enlightenment outreach program conducted by CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, the Divisional Police Officer of Ogborikoko Division, at a local school. During the outreach, one of the victims bravely disclosed her ordeal, which led to the immediate arrest of her father.
According
to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the three daughters are
currently aged 13, 15, and 24. Odega confessed during interrogation that he
began sexually abusing his first daughter when she was just 12 years old, and
later extended the abuse to his other two daughters.
The
police confirmed that the victims are receiving medical attention while the
suspect remains in custody. He is expected to be charged to court under Delta
State’s laws on sexual offences, where he will face full prosecution.
This case
is not isolated. In October 2025, two fathers in Ondo State, Azeez Lamidi and
Oyewole Adamolekun, were also arrested for allegedly impregnating their
daughters after repeated incidents of sexual abuse.
These
incidents highlight a disturbing pattern of sexual violence within families,
raising urgent calls for stronger community awareness, stricter enforcement of
laws, and better support systems for victims.
The
arrest of Odega underscores the importance of outreach programs in schools and
communities, which can empower victims to speak out against abuse. It also
reflects the growing determination of Nigerian law enforcement agencies to
tackle sexual crimes, especially those involving minors and vulnerable
individuals.
The case
has sparked conversations nationwide about the need for vigilance, education,
and collective responsibility in protecting children from abuse.
This
tragic incident serves as a reminder of the hidden dangers that can exist
within families and the critical role of both law enforcement and society in
ensuring justice and safeguarding the rights of children.
