DSS Arrests Kuje Jailbreak Mastermind in Okene
In a
decisive intelligence operation, the Department of State Services (DSS) has
apprehended Abdulazeez Obadaki, a notorious figure linked to the 2022 Kuje
Custodial Centre jailbreak.
The arrest took place in the Lafia Obessa area of Okene Local Government Area, Kogi State, marking a significant breakthrough in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism and organized crime.
Obadaki,
also known by the alias “Bomboy,” was identified as a high-profile member of
the Ansaru terrorist group. He had previously escaped during the July 2022
jailbreak in Abuja, an incident that shook national security and raised
concerns about the resilience of Nigeria’s correctional system.
His
capture comes just two months after the DSS arraigned five suspects connected
to the Owo Catholic Church attack in Ondo State, underscoring the agency’s
intensified crackdown on violent networks.
Investigations
revealed that Obadaki was not only a mastermind of the Kuje jailbreak but also
deeply involved in other violent crimes. He was implicated in coordinated bank
robberies in Uromi, Edo State, in 2022, and accused of orchestrating a shooting
at the Deeper Life Church in Okene years earlier. Security sources disclosed
that following his transfer from Kabba Custodial Centre in June 2022, Obadaki
confessed to planning and executing the jailbreak that enabled several
high-profile inmates to escape.
The
arrest highlights the DSS’s growing success in dismantling terrorist cells and
criminal syndicates across Nigeria. It also reflects the agency’s ability to
track fugitives long after their escape, ensuring accountability for crimes
that destabilize communities.
For
residents of Okene and beyond, the operation serves as reassurance that the
government remains committed to restoring security and curbing the influence of
extremist groups.
This
development is part of a broader narrative in Nigeria’s security landscape,
where intelligence-led operations are increasingly becoming the cornerstone of
counterterrorism efforts.
The
capture of Obadaki is not only a victory for law enforcement but also a
symbolic moment in the country’s struggle against insurgency, organized crime,
and religiously motivated violence.
