Abdulmumin Jibrin Bids Farewell to NNPP, Eyes New Political Horizon
In a
dramatic turn of events, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the federal lawmaker
representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, has formally
announced the end of his affiliation with the New Nigeria People’s Party
(NNPP).
The announcement follows his expulsion from the party, a decision he described as both “a surprise and a rude shock.”
Jibrin’s
departure was triggered by allegations of anti-party activities and failure to
meet financial obligations, as cited by the NNPP’s Kano State chapter. However,
in a personally signed statement, Jibrin contested the process, lamenting the
absence of fair hearing. He claimed that no invitation was extended to him to
defend or explain himself before any organ of the party, a move he believes
contradicts the NNPP’s professed commitment to justice and due process.
The
lawmaker stood by the contents of his recent interviews in both English and
Hausa, which he said were consistent with the party’s principles of free
expression. He expressed disappointment that such public commentary could
warrant expulsion, especially in a party that claims to embrace dissenting
views. Despite the perceived injustice, Jibrin chose to accept the decision “in
good faith and without grudges,” opting not to challenge it in court out of
respect for the party and its members.
Addressing
the issue of unpaid dues, Jibrin appealed to the NNPP to send him an invoice,
promising to settle any outstanding payments promptly. He urged the party to
maintain decorum and avoid personal attacks as they part ways, emphasizing that
political relationships should remain cordial regardless of affiliation.
Jibrin
also criticized the party’s treatment of its members, stating that the NNPP
“does not believe anybody has political value” and often fails to treat people
with the respect they deserve. He expressed a desire to invest his political
capital “where it will be appreciated with dignity.”
As he
closes this chapter, Jibrin thanked the NNPP for the support he received during
his time in the party. He signaled that he would carefully evaluate his options
before announcing his next political move, inviting his supporters to join him
on the journey ahead.
