FCT MINISTER INSPECTS ONGOING INFRASTRUCTURE AHEAD OF PRESIDENT TINUBU’S THIRD ANNIVERSARY

…WARNS CONTRACTORS AGAINST DELAY

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 conducted a comprehensive inspection of several major infrastructure projects across the territory that are scheduled for commissioning during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third anniversary celebration.

The Minister’s tour covered several strategic sites, including the Arterial Road N16 Interchange (connecting Jahi and Gwarimpa), the Transit Way N2 bridges (linking Wuse District and the Central Business District), the access road in the Institution and Research District (near the Body of Benchers as well as the Nile and Baze University), as well as the road leading to the Tunga Madaki community off Bill Clinton Drive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

During the tour, the Minister emphasized the administration's commitment to quality and strict adherence to deadlines, warning that the FCT Administration will not tolerate delays as it prepares for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third-year anniversary celebrations.

While expressing satisfaction with the progress of work across the project sites he visited, Barr. Wike issued a stern warning to the firm handling the Transit Way N2 and its bridges connecting Wuse and Central Business Districts upon discovering that they may not meet up with the agreed timeline.

The Minister said that he will not accept any delay beyond the agreed timeline and ordered the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to ensure the project is delivered latest by the second week of June this year.

The Minister said, “We agreed that by the end of May the road would have been completed. But as we went there today, the representative of the company is saying a different thing. I’m not going to accept that. I have told the Executive Secretary, FCDA to make sure that they speed up the job in line with the agreement we reached so that they would hand over that job by the second week of June”.

At the Tunga Madaki community road, the Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the project, which he said was initiated to provide access to rural communities, following the commencement of the second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

He further disclosed that the administration had authorized the extension of the road from the bridge's terminal point all the way to Zuba, adding that the project has been formally submitted to the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), while the Department of Resettlement is currently conducting valuations to ensure fair compensation for farmers whose crops may be impacted.

Once completed, Barr. Wike said that the vital artery will create a seamless connection from Bill Clinton Drive to Zuba, significantly improving regional mobility.

Beyond road construction, the Minister also confirmed that major satellite town water projects in Bwari, Karu, and Orozo were nearing completion and slated for inauguration during the President’s third-year anniversary, to improve the quality of life of residents across the Territory.

The Minister also highlighted significant strides in the education sector, noting that numerous schools, particularly those in satellite towns, had been renovated, furnished, and fully equipped, while new contracts were also recently awarded for the rehabilitation of healthcare facilities.

He reiterated that the rapid development of satellite towns is a hallmark of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, asserting that these areas are receiving a level of government attention never seen in previous administrations.

“We have said severally that the satellite towns are benefitting from the government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It has never happened before. Apart from roads, we are tackling water and we are also tackling education. We recently awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of most of the health facilities. So, we are not just concentrating on roads”.

Addressing the recent water scarcity in the Abuja city center, Barr. Wike revealed that the shortage was caused by a private developer who had damaged a major trunk line and vowed to take drastic action against those responsible for the public hardship.

"If it means shutting down the project, I will shut it down because you cannot suffer the public while you are going about to develop your own property. So be assured that we are going to take action", the Minister stated.

He appealed for public patience, assuring residents that the FCT Water Board is working tirelessly to restore full supply.
